Species Name: Ghost Ships are called 'Vagrant Soulvessels' by scholars. Sailors usually call them 'OHMYODROWFASTERIT'SCATCHINGUP' or something similiar.
Description:
Not shown: Grown men on the nearby fishing boat soiling themselves.
Diet: Do not seem to eat. Absorb the souls of their victims.
Rarity: Rare
Location(s) Found: All oceans and other large bodies of water that see ship travel and had it in the past.
Lore: A ghost ship is created when a violent captain goes down with his ship, and decides to sell his soul and the souls of his sailors to the horrors of the deep.
Abilities: Ghost Ships appear in storms and in the night, appearing out of fog and smoke on the sea. They do not follow the rules of nature, and can move across the ocean against the wind or waves unharmed. One can see multiple ghostly figures on ghost ships, their 'crew', working like normal sailors, even though they are ethereal ghosts or living corpses. When they appear, they head for the nearest ship of the living. If it comes close enough, the Ghost Ship will open fire from cannons and try to enter the living ship. Sailors slain by the ghostly advisaries and cannon blasts will not die, but instead fall into a coma-like state, while their souls are stolen from their bodies and taken aboard the ghost ship as new sailors. This comatose state lasts for roughly 14 days before the body expires fully. An attack by a ghost ship can be repelled by fighting it, but you can't sink it, no matter how many attacks hit it.
To destroy a ghost ship, you have to volunterily enter it and find the captain, fighting your way past the sailors. The captain is semi-corporeal, a mixture of rotten flesh, bones, and energy. While very resilient against physical damage, it can be killed by beheading it, or by using arcane power to overwhelm it. Killing the captain will evaporate the ship, and all souls that still have bodies to return to will awaken instantly and make a full recovery in a few days time.
