Salaneos's Reputation: Salaneos is a country which people put up with. It's not entirely well-liked, but no one really wants to tell them to shut up. The reason being that Salaneos is a magocracy. This means that it is controlled by Arcanists. Salaneos is one of the few countries that has cacao production, and only the Salan plantation masters know how to harvest these trees the best. They call the country a 'necessary evil.' Zakat and Salaneos have been in a cold war for about sixty years. Salaneos and Arcadia get along moderately well, and many Salan pride themselves in studying at Rydian. Salaneos's biggest ally is, surprisingly, Osynius. The Salan and Osynian governments don't see a need to fight, as their interests lie in complete opposite directions.

The People Of Salaneos: Although few in number compared to Arcadia, Salaneos prides itself in having 'pure' Arcanist bloodlines. There are two types of people in Salaneos. There are the Arcanists and the non-Arcanists. Arcanists are first-class citizens. They are treated well by the government, given fair prices, and are protected by law. They make up the majority of Salaneos. Non-Arcanists, however, are not treated as well. They are second-class citizens. It is legan to enslave a non-Arcanist in Salaneos, and they are treated as dirty, uncouth, and idiotic. The Salan Arcanists are known for being secretive about their Arcana, and so there are many magical secrets within the country's tiny border.
