Oh her tirade on trust and her irritation at his questions was not what he wanted to deal with. She even continued on about how pitiful of a man he was. It's like she wanted her neck snapped or something. Thankfully, the Reaper had patience. Thankfully, the Reaper had a need for her even still. She finished on an insultingly-playful note on his mask. She can't see, so it's not like it mattered if he had his mask off or not in regards to her. It's the others that could be... and probably were around.

He stood up, no longer squatting in front of her. "If I only cared for what I wanted, you and I both would be dead." Even if she couldn't see him, his tone was emphasizing that he was someone. It may be someone famous, infamous, important, unimportant, etc. His tone gave off no hints at who he was, just that he wasn't just some run-of-the-mill guy. "I do have reason to believe you just as I have reason to doubt you. That is up to my mind to determine whether or not it's true or not. You were attacked and nearly killed, that much is true. The rest, I can only speculate on what is and isn't."

"You can't live in this world without doubt and trust alike. If you trust too much, you will die, and the same goes for doubting too much. If you say what I do is only surviving, then see it that way. I have no inclination to change the way you see the world through rose-colored lenses. But know that people are all different, and there are some things that a normal person could not comprehend." He leaned in a bit, keeping his balance, to make sure that she could hear him. "Did you ever think, for a moment, that sometime people lack important characteristics like you lack sight? That those characteristics may not be just sight, hearing, or voice? That there are those that lack even a name?"

As Selena listened to his own rantings, she felt he had some sort of point to make with it. He would be able to tell that she really was listening to him and taking everything that he was saying in, as if she actually enjoyed listening to him talk. The moment that last line registered in her mind, Selena felt her heart sink. "No name?" she asked him curiously, "Do you actually have no name or are your implications false to make me feel guilty about the way I've been talking to you?" The expression Selena held at that point was one of guilt. She didn't want to insult him by saying he was rude for not telling her his name if he actually didn't have none. It was actually similar to his "rose colored lenses" comment and her blindness. "If so, you're name is now..." she stopped to think to herself.

"Jarred." she said with a sweet smile, "I like J and D names for men, but J fits you better. It was either that or Darius and that felt a little rough." It might be a little shocking to have someone just tell you what your name is. She doubted he'd go for it, but she could try anyways. A moment later, she sighed and stepped up toward him again. "Do you mind?" she asked as she lifted her hands again, "I actually wouldn't mind knowing what you looked like..." If he didn't allow her to, she'd drop her hands and sigh in disappointment before sort of just standing there, thinking to herself. If he did allow it, she'd step in and start as his face, tracing his mask, up to his eyes, and hair. "What color?" she'd ask once she got to each of them, "I actually used to be able to see, ya know... I wasn't born this way."

"Would it be too much if I asked to take off the mask?"

"Do you actually have no name or are your implications false to make me feel guilty about the way I've been talking to you?" He stayed silent, as if he knew she was going to continue. "If so, you're name is now... Jarred. I like J and D names for men, but J fits you better. It was either that or Darius and that felt a little rough." He nodded, even though she couldn't see it. "If that is what you wish to call me, then do so. I gave up my name long ago. I do not need a name to be left on the pages of history, no matter how much I plan on writing them." What he said was cryptic, and rightfully so.

She raised her hand, looking to it. "Do you mind? I actually wouldn't mind knowing what you looked like..." He guided her hands a little closer. He didn't feel anything threatening, but he would be on-guard still. "Fine." She felt along his face, and soon asked about his eyes. "Blue, more like an icy color." And then she asked about his hair, which was quite clean-feeling. "Black, although I am told it has blue-ish tints."

"I actually used to be able to see, ya know... I wasn't born this way." That was surprising. "Is that true? How did you lose your eyesight?" He may be prying, but it could be information that could provide insight into her reason for being attacked. "Would it be too much if I asked to take off the mask?" He hesitated for a moment. "Fine. But do not worry about what you feel—it is not a disease. It will not hurt you." He removed the mask to reveal a scary, scarred jaw that was filled with more scar tissue than normal skin.

Selena's attitude did change quite a bit toward him. He often confused her, scared her, and irritated her. It was just because she knew nothing about him and he knew nothing about her. Maybe if neither of them came off to be such hard-headed dip-shits, things would have been a little different. One thing she knew is that she had a reason for being stubborn, which meant he more than likely did too. Instead of being a pain in his side, since he did save her life, it was probably better for the both of them if maybe she did try to get to know him better? At least, this is what she was thinking when she decided to ask if she could touch him. What she didn't expect though, was his help in doing so.

Feeling him grab her hands and guide them closer, she felt a smile tug at the side of her lips. When she asked about his eyes and he answered with an icy blue, she couldn't help but reply with one word, "Beautiful." And she allowed her smile to grow a bit when he answered about his hair too. "You're not as complicated as I first thought... Thank you." she said as he took off his mask, but then her expression became confused. "Disease?" she asked as she started from his upper cheek and gently slide her hands downward. She could tell it was scar tissue and quickly understood why he felt the need to warn her. She continued feeling around his jaw, trying to figure out what could have done this.

"You were hurt..." she told him confidently, "I understand why others may have been wary, but they are merely fearful and ignorant, likely never seeing a wound like this before." Selena set both her hands on the sides of his face and smiled. She removed her left hand from his right cheek, quickly stood on the tips of her toes, and kissed his cheek. "It seems you hide behind a mask for the same reason I do." she tapped the top of her forehead, where her mask still lay, "I got sick of hearing children ask what was wrong with the creepy ladies eyes... or being gasped at over something I couldn't control... My heart goes out to you, though I feel you may once again scold me for talking like I understand." Selena's demeanor once again changed; she was much more womanly, her childishness was gone and she was being a little bit more tolerable. Thank fucking god...

"You were hurt... I understand why others may have been wary, but they are merely fearful and ignorant, likely never seeing a wound like this before." Those words shocked him just like her calling him "beautiful." He was not beautiful. He was manly as hell. Yeah. Well, at least he'd never call himself a man of beauty. To him, that's not something to care about. "You may be correct—I know not of anyone with a comparable wound, even if I do know those with worse injuries than this." Surprisingly, his voice wasn't much changed by the mask. Its gravel was natural—only the echo seemed to disappear.

"It seems you hide behind a mask for the same reason I do. I got sick of hearing children ask what was wrong with the creepy lady's eyes... or being gasped at over something I couldn't control... My heart goes out to you, though I feel you may once again scold me for talking like I understand." He shook his head slightly, his face still unchanging. "No. You may have a better understanding than initially thought." He didn't say so with any joy or any "yay, she can understand" tone. It was him merely stating a fact.

"You said you were attacked while eating an apple near a village." He changed the subject back to the more important one. Yes, his appearance may help her, but... he was more concerned about his life than his looks. He slid the mask back on, almost in a force of habit. "Do you know anything of the village, possibly even the direction from here or from where you were?"

"You know... when a woman kisses your cheek, it's not very polite to ignore." Selena responded once he was done starting to ask her questions again, "You're so stubborn. I'm trying to be nice to you and all you care about are those fools you were easily able to take down. Something tells me that you'll be fine. Why don't you loosen up and try to have a bit of fun?" Selena just sighed and put up both hands as if she had been defeated. "Nevermind, nevermind..." she said with a shake of her head, "I give up. If you don't want to be friends, I understand... I'll stop trying." She was obviously being a little condescending, but she was also telling the truth. She had tried to be friends.

"Anyways..." Selena thought for a moment. She tilted her head in different directions and even tried smelling the air, but in the end it was futile. "No, sorry. If you took me back to the place where you saved me, I could probably figure out the direction I was running from there... Otherwise, I got nothing." She grabbed onto the end of her chain and began pulling at it. She tugged as hard as she could, but the thing didn't budge. "Ugh... This is not giving it back, you know. It's still in your possession by you keeping it stuck to the ground." Selena's face dulled, her irritation beginning to return, "I swear... I've never met a man as paranoid as you... I'm not going to attack you damn it!"

Selena threw her arms in the air and sat down on the ground with a bit of a thud. "I'm not telling you a damn thing more, nor will I show you where they came from, until you actually give me a damn chance. Stop treating me like a suspect and stop keeping me from being in full possession of something that belongs to me. If I wanted to attack you, I would have done it by now... Do you not have anyone you'd just let be? Or are you a super loner?" Yes, Selena had a tendency to talk a lot, but that comes with the territory. She couldn't see, so she got information other ways, mainly talking. It also didn't help that he was suspiciously silent if she wasn't talking to him and it made her nervous.

"Well... I have a new goal in life..." she said as the idea popped into her head, "I'm going to make you want to be my friend."

If the Reaper was not stubborn, he would not have his scythe. If he could not kill a single person of 'feelings,' then the definition of the Reaper was null and void. His body tensed as her tone became more and more irate with him. She wanted to be friends? Hah, what a joke. He was glad she was blind and his mask were on, his face curling into a smile of "You have no idea what you are talking about, you idiot" would have sent her away. And despite all of the annoyance she was causing for him... the Reaper still had a purpose for her. He'd endure even death for his goals, so an annoying wench like this was of no concern.

"No, sorry. If you took me back to the place where you saved me, I could probably figure out the direction I was running from there... Otherwise, I got nothing." That was to be expected, but if he could have less stops to make... it would make this trip a whole lot shorter. And then she wanted to, yet again, go back to tirading about this damn chain. If a threat came up, he would undo it if he felt the need to. But for fuck's sake, could she realize that maybe, just maybe, that trusting a stranger with a weapon is a bad idea? Apparently not.

She sat down on the ground, huffing and puffing. Or are you a super loner?" She began to speak as if she knew him. Bitch, you know nothing of the Reaper. "Well... I have a new goal in life... I'm going to make you want to be my friend."

And then a small laugh echoed within the mask. He actually laughed at the thought of a "friend" at this stage in life. "Friend?" His laughing tone left, and his voice turned gravely serious and downright threatening. "The type of person I am has no friends. Not that there is a lack of need for them—but because those who try are subjected to a dark and torturous life as they follow me into the abyss which I am destined to face." He began to walk away, and his tone changed more to one of pity as he did so. "And it may be what little morality that still lies within this husk that says this, but I would not want to subject a woman who is already suffering from a lack of a sight to that."

Once he was around 40 feet away, the crystal faded into dust. He had calculated the estimated length of the chain, and he was well out of its reach as he removed it. He waited a few seconds to see what her reaction was. If she tried to attack, he'd return the favor. But if she didn't, he'd return to about 20 feet away. "I'll lead you back from whence you came, and from there you can lead me to that village, correct?" He waited on her response before he approached her once again. He may be a stubborn ass, but he was not going to force a blind woman to walk towards him. "If I sense so much as a twinge of hostility from you, I'll snap your neck twice around."

Ouch... Selena didn't know whether it was something she said or did, but he suddenly got a lot harsher than he had been. His laugh was the first thing that made her realize that. Was the idea of being friends with her that bad? And then he explained, making her heart sink in the process. Selena kept quiet for a bit when suddenly she was able to move her chain. She turned her ear toward him and smiled a bit, but  it was weak. Something he said had bothered her, and it wasn't the threat of breaking her neck twice. She rolled her eyes at that comment and just shook her head. She stood up and tapped on the chain. For a moment, it seemed to move by itself, wrapping around her waist like a belt multiple times. After that, she stucked the handle into the back of it and smiled to him.

"So that's the man you think you are, huh? That's... upsetting." Selena spoke finally, her tone sorrowed, "I doubt you're destined to fall into some dark abyss. You've chosen that route. Right now, if you wanted to, you could do as you said and break my neck, but you won't. You've chosen not to. The same way I could attack you now that I have my weapon back, but I won't. We choose our paths... And though the lives we live are influenced heavily by the choices of others, whether bad or good, we choose what we do with that as well. If you really want to fall into that dark abyss, then you will. If you don't, there is another path that you can take, a much happier path that's laid out in front of you. You just got to take the leap and trust that it won't let you down; that's why I did."

"Now... Since you're not going to get any hostility from me, unless you choose to show some toward me first, I'd like to follow you back to that area." she said, holding her hand out toward him with a genuine smile, hoping he'd take it. His reasons for taking it were going to be different than her offering, but oh well. This was where the two of them were going to start, and he was foolish if he thought she wasn't serious. She's a very curious person naturally. He was an interesting man, though she'd admit he does frighten her a bit, but her curiosity might do that thing it does to the cat so often. As the two would walk back to the area, she'd stay silent for his sake, but the fact that he didn't ask any questions surprised her. About half way there, she leaned forward with her hands behind her back, tilting her ear upward toward him as they walked. "No more questions?" she said with a soft smile, a little condescendingly, "That's a little surprising. You're a bit of a mystery, aren't you?"

"I guess I can ask a few questions..." Selena stood up straight again, crossing her arms along her chest as she thought of something to ask him. "Wh-.. Ah!" Selena felt her foot slide under a raised root that she actually had not even 'seen', causing her to fall forward. Assuming he didn't catch her, she'd suddenly raise her head from her fallen position with a metaphorical light bulb shining over her head. "Ha! Have you ever seen a dragon before?" she asked what would seem like one of the most random questions that could pop out of this woman's mouth. She stood up and dusted herself off, "I ask that because I don't think you'd tell me anything too personal. If I ask about some of the things you've seen or done, over anything about your family, loves, or non-existent friends, maybe you won't get too mad at me and will actually warm up to me a bit, since I know I can be a little overwhelming to people like you... Like you meaning quiet, reserved, secretive, loner, mystery types."

Oh what did she know about his path? Nothing. She knew nothing of what the Reaper did nor what he felt of the world. What was going on was nothing more than a continuing irritation. She kept talking like he didn't know this. He had chosen the path of self-destruction, and he knew what it would end with. He didn't want to change either. He had no reason to change. "Now... Since you're not going to get any hostility from me, unless you choose to show some toward me first, I'd like to follow you back to that area."

As she extended the hand, the Reaper took it. "Fine." He basically began to pull her back to where he found her, passing by Hughes's cart. The trip was mostly in silence—he had nothing to speak to her. ""No more questions? That's a little surprising. You're a bit of a mystery, aren't you?" The Reaper did notice her tone; not paying attention to it much. "There is not much else to ask that would concern me."

"I guess I can ask a few questions..." His prisoner left his grip, quickly falling. He had tried to stop to re-grab her hand, and was able to quickly catch her as he spun around. He stepped aside, letting her regain her balance. "Ha! Have you ever seen a dragon before?" An interesting, but easy question. "A dragon? Yes, I have. But I am not one so foolish as to think that I could strike at it. Besides, they are of nature. I have nothing against those of nature."

"I ask that because I don't think you'd tell me anything too personal. If I ask about some of the things you've seen or done, over anything about your family, loves, or non-existent friends, maybe you won't get too mad at me and will actually warm up to me a bit, since I know I can be a little overwhelming to people like you... Like you meaning quiet, reserved, secretive, loner, mystery types." The Reaper shook his head slightly. "You are not overwhelming. Slightly annoying, yes—but not overwhelming." He was speaking matter-of-factly, and not particularly caring if he seemed offensive. "Although there are those listed in your questions that I could not answer, many of them I have qualms with."

As the two returned to the location from whence they met... All that was left was a single body—a longsword still embedded vertically in his chest. "Here we are—where I saved your life. Tell me, do you remember anything else about those men? Maybe some of their armor was different or maybe they had an accent?" The Reaper began to look around, eyeing for any signs of opponents still hidden in the forest. "And most importantly, where do we go from here to get to that village?"

"You really don't care about how other people feel, do you?" Selena replied when hearing his hurtful tone. She assumed he'd be like most people and tell her she was fine, but no. He decided to actually be honest. She wasn't sure what this meant, but she felt he was trying to insult her. "I'm not going to back off, as a note." she told him, putting her arms behind her back and holding her hands together, "You will learn to love me." Selena said with a sweet smile. And yes, she was speaking as if he had no choice in this matter. He had given her a very interesting goal by making her curious about him. She wanted to know more about this man and she was going to find out who he was.

The two of them made it to where he had saved her life. When he seemed to intentionally point that fact out, she glanced to him and blinked a few times. "Seriously?" she asked with an eyebrow raised, "I get it. You saved my life. Don't try to hold it against me or anything, that's just uninteresting and too... normal." She didn't entirely get her point across, at least she thought she didn't. Normally people would hold something like that over someone elses head; if he did, he'd be pretty similar to every other man out there and she didn't want that. Selena wanted her reasons for being so interested in this man to be completely correct. She wanted him to be odd, confusing, and fun.

"And do I remember... their armor?" Selena shook her head at him, giggling a bit, "Due to the fact that I can't see and I haven't entirely memorized the sounds of armor, I'm going to have to say no. If I had to say anything, it'd be that they "weren't wearing any" because I heard nothing, except the damn horses that their archers were on." When Selena said 'weren't wearing any, she brought her fingers up to do the quotations with them. "And their voices? Normal. They just talked normally... I don't remember any accents. One of them talked like you..." she put a hand over her mouth and began talking, sort of teasing him about the way his voice sounded with the mask, "All creepy."

"Do you see any trees that are sorta... knocked over?" Selena said and waited for him to answer, "Where ever they are, go straight in that direction and we'll find the village I was at... Thank Rydia. I want my stuff back. I have another chain and clothes... and books... Just everything I care about is there... Thanks for helping me get there by the way. I know you have your own reasons, but it's still helpful and I appreciate it." Selena walked over to him, her arms being held out until she found him. Sliding her hand down his arm, she smiled and gently grabbed his hand, "Come, come. I can't lead the way. Let's get going before it gets too late and my stuff ends up being stolen."

"Hold it against you?" The Reaper stopped for a moment, a slight glare shooting from his eye. "If you were any good judge of character and tone, you would know that I did no such thing." His tone was growing more and more annoyed with her. She reminded him of Xander, although she was more annoying. "Would rather me have described it as 'that place littered with bodies and sprayed crimson with their blood?'"

The Reaper's questions only furthered his annoyance with her. She didn't seem to take any of this seriously, and his patience was extremely thin. "Horses? And archers? Now if you had said such things in the first place, you would have given me far less of a headache." By this point, he did not care if he insulted her. He didn't care if he offended her. He didn't want to be near her any longer than possible, and he would be forcing her along if need be.

A sigh echoed inside of his mask, and he was about to accept the grip... "Hold." He spoke to her closer to like a rider would talk to a horse than two humans. He could feel animosity. He stood still—eyes scanning everything around him. Unfortunately, he didn't see the arrow nor its runes. Thankfully, he didn't have to see it for the arrow to bounce off of him.

But it didn't just bounce. As the arrow struck, a gust of wind from his body blew the projectile back. It was enough force to cause the arrow to break apart like the twig it was made from. "You should try better if you aim to kill a man ready for his death." The Reaper spoke, and three more assassins emerged from the woods. The neighing of a horse nearby broke the silence as they looked at the two targets. "You try to seek mindless destruction... You have no worth in the world."

As he spoke, a sword began to form inside of his grasp. It was massive, and made of the same crystals from before. "Selena Loret, you should prepare yourself for combat. There are three, two armed with swords—longswords at that—and one with a shortbow. That chain is not just for show, I hope for your sake." As he finished speaking, the two with swords charged. The Reaper swung in retaliation from the first—the crystalline sword shattering the metal one. With no mercy or remorse, he brought the now-airborne sword down through the man.

When Reaper stopped, Selena turned her ear toward him and raised an eyebrow at what he was saying. "Hey, hey... Come on now. I'm just messing with you..." Selena said in a more gentle tone than she had been speaking, "I'm trusting you not to break my neck twice, not let me fall on my ass while we walk, stab me in the back when I've got my back turned to you... You trusted me to give me back my chain and to give you the answers you want... Can you please add that I'm not trying to insult you to that list? And believe it or not, with your mask and not being able to see your face... Yes, I am a pretty bad judge of your tone. And when it comes to judging you as a person, I can't. You're not going to tell me anything about you and you keep this mysterious air about you, so how could I?"

"Ugh! Will you stop!? I don't know what information you want! I don't even understand why you want this information. They attacked me, not you. It was probably just some sort of coincidence that you were attacked by other people at the same time..." Selena crossed her arms along her chest and tried holding back her own temper while he talked so harshly toward her, "Unless you noticed something about them that gave you the idea that for some reason us being attacked was connected of course... And if that's the case, then I'm not the annoying one. You are. You'd be the one keeping information from me! Not the other way around! Or is the fact that I am blind and can't notice shit like that something that's just not able to get through that thick stubborn skull of yo-!"

"Hold." What the fuck? Did he just talk to her like she was a horse? Selena froze in her spot, standing there in a calm rage as she listened to everything that began to unfold around her. "I got it, I got it." Selena interrupted reaper as he was explaining who was around them. How she knew? He probably would be a little suspicious of, but whatever. Selena was done. As he destroyed the first guy, Selena charged forward, her steps practically unheard as she ran passed the second attacker by leaping into the air and grabbing onto the branch of a tree. She swung herself upwards, using the branch to sling shot into the air and over the man with the shortbow. As she came down on him, he fired an arrow, only to hit the chain around her torso, allowing her to take no damage.

"You fucking idiot!" Selena yelled at him as she brought the back of her foot down onto the man's collar bone. She could feel it crack beneath the pressure of her kick, sending his body slamming into the floor. She landed behind him, walked over, and sat down. The man wasn't dead, just incapacitated at this point. She sat on his back, ignoring his groans of pain, and crossed her arms along her chest. "Happy?" she said sarcastically, narrowing her eyes toward Reaper once he was done taking out the other man, "Assuming what I just did brought up any of your precious questions... I'll answer them once I have my things. I'm not saying a damn thing more until I've actually been able to recover every single bit of my belongings from the village they chased me from."

As the massive sword brought itself through the second man's torso, the Reaper noticed that she had already incapacitated the one with the bow. "Happy doesn't describe the relief I feel about worrying if I had to protect a blind woman all the time." The sword faded into dust, and he walked up to her. "I may have underestimated you on the fact you are blind. For that, I must apologize." The Reaper was not a man of mercy nor or of forgiveness, but he could admit when he was wrong. And since this was a minor wrong, this was something easily remedied.

The Reaper knelt down to get a better view of the man—inadvertently (and disinterestedly) getting a look at Selena's legs. "Most definitely from the same batch... But of far lower quality. This man wouldn't know anything."  The Reaper stood up, dusting off his pants. "I have no time to waste on peons. But if you were to tell me who your commander is..."

"Fuck off ya bastard. We've got thirty more men coming behind us. They'll kill the both of y—" The man tried to speak further, but a foot in his mouth prevented that. "I don't believe I said I had any interest in your so-called reinforcements. You were beaten by a blind woman. If they are anything like you, the horse you so graciously left behind would be more than enough to take them out." The man began to swear obscenities into steel and leather, none of which making it out of his mouth.

"You said you wouldn't answer any more of my questions," he turned to Selena, "before you had the rest of your things. Then I say we waste no time. I assume you can hold onto me as I ride a horse, correct?" Knowing he wouldn't have to worry about protecting her really did lighten his mood. Well, not really lighten his mood... but he could stand being around her a bit easier.

They found the horse, which was already saddled. The man was left with two broken legs and a hand pinned to the ground by the thumb. He wasn't going anywhere soon. "Come, let us be off." The Reaper helped her onto the horse the best he could, and then he took the front mount. It took them not even half an hour to reach the village by horse back thanks to her direction-giving. "So where in this village are your things?"

Selena's eyes actually widened when she got that apology. It was sincere, which was even more shocking than getting the apology. She figured he might have some sort of sarcastic remark, but he didn't and this pleasantly surprised her. She blinked a few times, her expression softened, and she just smiled. "You're forgiven, of course." she told him as he got close to her. Selena couldn't help but blush a little. She knew he wasn't looking at her, but at the guy she was sitting on, but the close proximity was making her just a little nervous. She had been intentionally flirting with him this entire time, as if that had really gotten her anywhere, so she understood her reaction. Once he looked back to the other one and asked him about their commander, Selena winced when she 'saw' what Reaper did to the guy.

"I don't think he's going to talk..." she told him. The guy under her began moving around, so Selena sent a really strong punch into the guy's kidney. A loud pain filled grunt was sounded and soon the guy passed out. She sighed and stood up, moving to stand next to Reaper. He turned toward her, causing her to jump and take a step back from him, as if she thought she might have gotten too close. As he spoke, she had her eyes looking downward and a little to the left of him. She could tell his mood had lightened up, at least a bit, so it was making her feel really guilty to continue this little act of hers. How long could or should she keep it up? If she told him the truth, that she technically did have a way to see through her powers, would he attack her? Would get become angry and just leave her here?

"Yeah, I can hold on..." she told him, her tone slightly off in comparison to before. She sounded like there was something on her mind. As he went to help her up, she gladly accepted and even tried helping him on the horse once it was his turn. Knowing that she needed to hold on, she hesitated just for a moment and wrapped her arms around his waist. Half way through the ride, Selena decided to speak up. "Look... You didn't underestimate me or anything like that... Well, you likely did, but it wasn't entirely your fault, you know? I, uh..." Selena turned her head away from him and sighed, "I am not being very nice to you right now... I kinda don't know anything else about the attacks. I was just walking through the village when they started chasing me... Besides that, I don't know anything."

"I just wanted you to stick around... It's not very often that I meet a man as interesting as you." she gave a sheepish smile, her cheeks turning a slight red, "I'll drop the act though. If I had known the helpless little blind woman thing was getting on your nerves, I would have stopped a long time ago... I am sorry." Selena was honestly expecting him to just stop the horse and kick her off the back, which she really couldn't blame him for. Feeling like he would do that, she did sort of tighten her arms around his waist. At least then he wouldn't' be able to without causing himself a bit of problem as well. If he didn't though, once they arrived at the village, Selena would show him to the inn where she had been staying, "I'm curious as to what you might have gotten yourself into to warrant being attacked..."

"Oh... And whether you like it or not..." she said as she'd lead him into the inn, a sweet smile on her face, "I'm going to keep trying to get you to like me. I've made up my mind. I want you to be mine."

"I know." The Reaper had from a long time ago assumed she knew nothing important. "From shortly after your wounds were treated onwards, I felt that your knowledge on the attacks and the attackers was far beneath my initial assumptions." The Reaper did not even look back at her as he spoke. "However, just because you did not notice something does not mean another pair of eyes did not." He had to stop with the eye metaphors.

"I can think of countless crimes I have committed, not one bearing any significance to me now to wonder if it was the one which caused this." He did not speak any more on that subject as he walked inside the inn. The inn was sparsely packed, with no single person sitting alone and only small groups huddled around tables. "And if you still wish to be on the same path I walk, then you may do so of your free will. I will not stop you unless you get in my way."

A few of the customers began to whisper among themselves, mentioning words such as "masked devil" and "reaper of kings." The Reaper heard these murmurs but would not speak up at them. Instead, he waited on Selena to finish gathering her things...

Selena ended up not telling him that she had a manner of seeing; she just admited everything but that. She didn't have the courage to do that. No matter how much he interested her, she was still a little frightened of him. If he wanted to take her out, she figured that he could. Yet, even with this fear and not fully being able to trust him, there was something about this man that made her want him around. She wanted to get to know him, observe him, and she didn't know why.

As they made it to the inn, Selena lead him in and heard some of the rumors that people seemed to be passing back and forth between each other. She knew she wasn't ever known as the 'masked devil', so she wondered which one of them they were talking about. Technically, her blindfold could be considered a mask, but something told her they were talking about him. And then she heard something about a "Reaper Of Kings" and knew they had to be talking about him.

Selena made it to her room and began gathering her things. If he stood inside the room with her while she packed up, he'd notice her packing a second chain and a pair of glasses; those would be the only thing of note that she'd pack up. Once she was done, she placed a bag over her shoulder and stepped out of the inn room with the key. "One of these days, I'm going to get something to pack these things easier..." she said with a sigh as she closed and locked the door.

"So you're okay with me following you around?" she asked, going back to the subject they had been talking about before she began packing up, "I'm glad, because I'd rather not be forced to follow you in the shadows until you gave in... I can be a bit of a stalker if needed..." She smiled and then put a hand on her hip, staring directly at him this time, "So, what should I call you? Because "Reaper of Kings" is not it." She leaned in and whispered in his ear with that final bit.

As they began walking back, Selena realized they were about to be met with quite a few people who seemed to just be waiting for something, and that something was in their direction. "Hey..." she whispered. If he was taking the lead, she'd stop him by wrapping an arm around him and placing her hand on his chest. If she was in the lead at this point, she'd mere stop walking and turn back toward him. "I think..." she started, her eyes narrowed a bit, "There are people waiting for us in the lobby."

"Any crimes on the more recent side that you'd like to tell me about?" Selena asked with an eyebrow raised, "Either way, until you turn your blade on me, you've got my loyalty, so there really isn't any reason not to tell me, secretive man." It was then that three men in the lobby looked down the hallway and fired three crossbows at her back. She didn't even move. "Don't even bother with them, I'l-..." Ting, ting, ting. The chain she had wrapped around her torso took the hits.

"Stop that." she said, blinking at them. "He's the Masked Devil, I know it!" one of them said. These were just normal people from the village, they weren't even bounty hunters, mercenaries, or anything with skill. The crossbows that they were using were literally just for hunting. "Well, that's rude!" Selena yelled back at them, startling them a bit. She stepped toward Reaper and wrapped her arms around him, "Don't call my boyfriend a Devil, that's just mean! He didn't do anything to you!"

"But... he..." the man pointed at Reaper and then glanced from him back to her, repeating the process a couple times. "Ahh! I'm so, so, so sorry!!" the man dropped the weapon and put his hands on his head in a panic, "I could have killed y-... Ahh!! Here, here!" The three men tossed a decent sized bag of gold toward Selena, who caught it and looked back to Reaper with a big smile that said, "Having me around will be good for you." She looked back to the men and nodded, shooing them off.

"Alright, honey, let's get going..." she stuck her tongue out at him, took his hand, and began leading out of the inn. Once they got outside, she just smiled and continued holding onto his hand.

"J." The Reaper gave away something only he and the members of the Night Nine knew. "That is the only semblance of a name which can be attested to me." The Reaper truly had no name anymore. All he knew was his name was 'J. Strigon,' and that was from the toe tags from when people thought he was dead long, long ago.

The Reaper began to lead her out, and was stopped by her apparently sensing hostility better than he could. No, that wasn't right. He knew there was hostility. But frankly, it was such a weak hostility he could not care less about it. "Nothing around here." He would not get into business talks with her. His business isn't hers and her business isn't his.

That was until he saw the crossbow bolts bounce off of her. He was about to strike out, but she gave him a glance that said not to. She then said their antics were 'rude'—and although they were, it was the next part which caught his attention. Boyfriend. Romance was of no consequence to the Reaper. He was no virgin, but love had been out of his grasp for years now. She gave him a smile, and he responded with a knowing nod.

Once they were outside, he spoke to her without looking at her direction. "You are an interesting one. You are not only willing, but ready to formulate a false relationship with a man you can't even see the face of. I have met many women in my life, but you are of a different sort altogether." He didn't know if he phrased that like a compliment or an insult, and both worked for what he was trying to get across. "If you still wish to follow me, I suggest you keep this ruse up."

"J?" Selena had quite a few theories that rushed through her mind about him just being "J". The main one was that he might have been part of a secret organization that was created to keep certain crimes, people, or places in check! Either that, or it was a nickname someone called him and he just stuck with it because he really didn't know what his name was, and that caused her heart to sink. "Alright..." she said and gave a light-hearted smile. She wanted to ask, but refused.

The fact that J went along with her little scheme was surprising as hell. She figured he'd call her out on it because he wouldn't understand exactly what she was doing. Of course, when she got that nod, she smiled even more. Yep. She liked him. He was fun, at least in her eyes he was. Once the two of them stepped out of the inn and were away from any people that could listen in, J spoke up. "I would have kissed you too, if you weren't so shy." she tapped a finger on his mask.

"And I know you're not shy, J." she said spoke to clarify, speaking his name for the first time. "I'm glad I can at least interest you somewhat. I'm sure that you can tell I'm curious as hell about you." she said with a content smile, taking his words like a compliment. She glanced down toward her bag for a moment and reached in, pulling out a small case. "Actually... I'd like to... see your face, if you'd allow it..." she said, opening the case and then showing him a pair of glasses.

"I had these made out of some special material after I lost my sight..." she explained and pulled the glasses out, placing the case in her bag, "They hurt my head like hell, especially if I have them on for too long, but they allow me to see by suppressing my Arcana... since... it was my Arcana that took my eyesight away. I'm not putting them on unless you say I can see your entire face because they really do hurt like hell, but I think it'd be worth." She gave a bit of a shy smile.

    "So... would you... let me?"

"So... would you... let me?" That was a hard question. She has the ability to see, although it was an odd way. He looked to the side, away from her. He raised a hand, and brought it to his chin. Should he? This is a woman who was willing to give him nearly-undying loyalty for no reason other than he made her curious. She was a woman willing to lie to everyone around her to save his skin.

He grabbed her hand, and began to pull her along. "Come." The two entered the forest again, and it was a few hundred yards into the wooded area before he stopped. He made sure to notify her of each and every obstacle around them as they continued to walk. But once he got to that area—where no one in town could see—he took two more steps. "Put them on."

Once she gave him the okay, he removed the mask—his back still facing her. "I will warn you. It is not a pleasant sight." He turned around slowly, allowing her to get the full view of the damage. It was a beard of scar tissue, grotesque and old. It covered from his ears to his chin and around his mouth. Even the tip of his nose was disfigured. Raised areas and dips all caused by what appeared to be varied instruments (although that is not the truth) fell across his face like dunes in the desert sands. His lips had only a slight tint to identify where they were—otherwise, they would not exist at all.

Selena waited patiently for an answer, even though she seemed a little fidgety. He thought for a bit and then suddenly took her hand. She didn't know where they were going, but she wasn't going to ask. She just enjoyed the fact that he didn't immediately say no, went along with her scheme, and even said that she could continue pretending he was her boyfriend. In fact, she was going to have to re-confirm that with him. He had no idea what he was getting himself into with that one.

As they traveled along, he warned her of obstacles, which was actually really sweet. She was able to avoid anything that would have tripped her up because of that. Once they finally stopped, he told her she could put them on and she immediately got excited. "Okay." she said in a cheerful tone. She set her bag down and was about to put her glasses on when she realized that this was going to hurt again. She hesitated for just a moment and placed the glasses over her ears and eyes.

"Mm..." she let out a low grunt of pain and took in a deep breath. The amount of pressure behind literally forcing your Arcana down caused quite a bit of pain. She placed her hands on her temples and sighed. "A-Alright." she spoke a little strained. She kept her eyes closed tightly for a moment and blinked them open as he turned around. When he did, she lifted her head and her expression immediately softened, replacing the pained one she had previously had on her face.

"Hm..." she said and stepped closer to him. One thing he'd notice about her is that her pupils returned and her eye color darkened just a bit. Surprisingly, the first thing she did was lift her hands up to touch his hair. "Black, as you said..." she said and looked down to his eyes, "And an icy blue..." Her eyes then shifted down to his wounds and her smile faded a bit. She couldn't help but feel bad for him, but she tried not showing any pity on her face. She just understood why he hid behind the mask.

"I'd be lying if I said that it was attractive... and I won't lie." she said, bringing her hands up to touch his face like she had once before, "I will say this though... You are not ugly, J, so I hope that's not something you think... I figure how attractive you are isn't something you care about, but I figured it'd be nice to at let you know how I see you... Those piercing, yet mesmerizing eyes of yours... they make up for quite a bit. I'd kiss your lips to prove it, but something tells me I'd be going too far."

"I do get to keep you as my pretend boyfriend, though something tells me that will change some time soon..." she said tapping a finger on his chest and looking him up and down, "One day, you'll want me to call you my real boyfriend, and I will... And then you're really stuck with me." She put her hands behind her back and leaned into him, "Unless you want that now of course. I wouldn't mind. It'd skip all the work I'd have to put in to convincing you, which I know I will."

The fact her pupils miraculously re-appeared was not all that surprising to him. She had glasses that made her—a blind woman—able to see again. Arcana was a wondrous thing, and sometimes it's best to just not question it. Just like she didn't question his marred face. It just was not something to ask about. He kept his eyes looking directly ahead, not even at her. If she were to vomit, he wasn't going to want to see it.

There wasn't much to think of when it came to her compliments. Yes, he knew the scarred jaw was not attractive. He didn't know his eyes were 'mesmerizing.' That was not a way they had been described—most of the time it was "as cold as skinny dipping in the arctic." He finally glanced down at her as she prodded at his chest.

The Reaper slipped the mask back on before speaking, firmly affixing it on his face. "I have no interest in becoming your real romantic partner. If that is what you are searching for, then your search has been sent askew." He truly had no interest in loving her or anyone. He was a man dedicated to his cause, and it would take a lot more than pretty legs to sway him from it in any form. "But you won't give up that easily, will you? Don't even answer that—the only stupid question is one you already know the answer to." He interrupted himself and half-joked. He then grabbed her hand after letting her place the glasses back into their case. "Come along—I have work to do." The Reaper had a new accessory now apparently...
