    Shinpachi Nagakura

The sun was high in the sky and it felt like it was concentrating strongly on Shinpachi's back. It was as if it wanted some sort of revenge and was making sure to make him miserable on his trip! The poor drained man walked along, his arms hanging loosely as he slouched heavily over. The fact that he was standing and still, somehow, able to continue walking was surprising. His stomach growled loudly, feeling as if it was going to cave in on itself. The low rumble sent a sharp pain up his gut and to his throat. The man needed something to eat and badly, but he had no money to spend. And then suddenly, he felt like the sun increased it's heat and Shinpachi's frustration hit it's peak.

"Agh!!!" he shouted loudly and turned toward the overbearing fire demon that shined so strongly down on him, "Why do you do this!? Go away you evil fire devil!!" As if it was going to do anything, Shinpachi picked up a rock and tossed it toward the sun. Before it even hit ground, the over tired man fell. Now laying on his back, his skin scrapped lightly against the dirty road. Not caring who may be passing him by, he laid there in the sun breathing heavily. His stomach roared loudly again, sending that same familiar pain up his gut and to his throat. "Mmmmmmm." he whined, holding his stomach again, "I know, I know. I'm hungry, but I don't have any foooood." Shinpachi rolled over on his stomach and looked down the dirt road, wondering exactly how far the next town was.

It had not been a long day, but it sure felt like it was going to be one. It wasn't too hot of a day, but the sun was sure out in full force. Aila walked with her parasol open for once, preventing the fire demon from getting in her eyes. If it dared try to hurt her eyes, then things might get ugly for whoever she came across. And if it got ugly, then there might not be survivors. And that was not something Aila wanted to deal with again. That is why this feeling of becoming a long day was not sitting well with the woman in plaid.

The more she walked, the more Aila could swear she saw something in the distance along the winding dirt path. Originally, she thought it was just a hallucination—that this would just be something to do with the heat. But no, the more she encroached on this black spot's territory, the more she realized this was definitely some tangible thing. The problem was discerning the nature of the spot. It could be a rug from a caravan or an animal carcass left to rot in the road. Either way, Aila was ready to get past whatever it happened to be.

But as she got closer, a bit of concern grew on her face. What she thought might be a rather skinny horse or a deer turned out to be humanoid. And even though this person was the size of one of those, it was just lying there at this point. Aila stepped up to him, as she could tell it was a him, and tapped his side with her shoe. "You dead?" She asked as she knelt down to see if he was breathing or not."If not, can you please get out of the road?" She was at least being polite about it.

But as she heard a groan and what sounded like the wail of a hungry stomach (that wasn't her own), she sighed. "Jeez... If you're going to go traveling, you should always eat first." Aila reached into the small satchel she carried with her, and dug around to find a roll she had bought a few towns over. "Here." The woman tossed it onto his chest, not caring if it rolled off or not.

    Shinpachi Nagakura

As the sun relentlessly beat Shinpachi into a sweat, the man laid there in his fatigued state. The dirt was colder than the still air. As he lay there, he could hear someone approaching, but didn't bother moving. They did not seem hostile in their movements. He decided it was best to play dead anyway, but that didn't work either! He felt a foot hit at his side and opened on eye. He turned his attention up toward a green haired woman, but was in the oddest position. One eye was under her skirt, the other was looking directly up at her. He froze, his eyes wide in shock. They were plaid red with black, very cute, and feminine. He couldn't help but stare; he was a man after all! But this was wrong.

The green haired woman tossed a roll onto his chest and he instinctively caught it. His face quickly tomatoed and he rolled away from her in a panic. Sitting up, he put his hands over his head hoping that he wasn't going to get hit, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to look! I didn't mean to! I'm sorry!" Realizing he had the roll in his hand, he brought it into his sights and blinked a couple times. A moment later, that roll was gone. He chewed a couple times and swallowed that thing practically whole and without taking any time at all. "Thank you so much!" he said as he felt the bread hit the pit of his stomach, "I don't have any money, otherwise I would have bought some food before now."

"I'm Shinpachi, by the way." he stood up and stepped over to the woman with a giant smile on his face and a hand held out, "You're nice for helpin' me out, ya know? Thank ya! So what's a pretty woman like yourself doing out here? Ya headin' into a town or somethin'? Nothin' in that direction for a long, long, long time. You sure you want to go that way? Might not be too safe." He pointed back the direction she seemed to be going, which happened to be where he had come from.

Aila didn't dress for men. She dressed this way mainly because these were the only clothes she had. Winter, summer, sun, rain, snow, no matter what, Aila wore the same outfit. She tried to wash it daily, and even had a small arcane item that would help her keep it clean. If there were tears, she carried around fabric to repair it. But even the previous tears could not be seen in this dress. The only things she had more than one pair of was her underwear.

After Aila gave him a rather generous gift of a roll, he rolled (pun intended) away. This was the first annoyance. If he was of any worth, he would have said 'Thank you' instead. He then brought his hands up in a defense posture and apologized over and over. This man... why was he apologizing? He had just fallen over of hunger? Aila should be apologizing for assuming he was dead! Gah, this man was giving her the sensation of an oncoming headache.

But almost as if he caught the dull look on her face, the man began to scarf down that roll. She just stared at him as he happily ate it, and then thanked her. At least he said thanks... And then he stood up, his horse-like height proving that she was not entirely mistaken on her far-off observation skills. And then... he extended a hand as he introduced himself as 'Shinpachi.' Aila raised an eyebrow at his hand and just looked back up to him. "And my name is Aila."

Aila began to ask if he was okay when he interrupted her. Even though she had barely even taken in a breath, this was annoying. And he just talked. That smile on his face... And that tone... He was obviously one of those people. One of those happy people. This bastard was probably a happy-go-lucky guy without a care in the world who would go around screaming 'JUSTICE' and 'I'LL SAVE EVERYONE!' The thought of that made her want to vomit.

Aila closed her satchel again. "My itinerary is none of your business. Now that you are no longer an obstacle..." Aila huffed up and walked past the man, "I shall be on my way. It would be wise not to collapse in the road again. The next person who meets you might just be the actual Grim Reaper." No matter what he said after that, Aila did not respond. She just kept on walking. This man pissed her off.

    Shinpachi Nagakura

"Aila, huh? Nice name." Shinpachi's energetic and friendly demeanor was something that often caught the eye of most people. He was usually able to make friends and earn people's trust with it. He was a trustworthy man, strong, and loyal. Anyone who met him understood it and agreed, but this woman was different. Shinpachi kept up his friendly demeanor because that was who he was, but when he was near her there was something very off. He almost felt like something was trying to make him feel depressed. He didn't like it at all and when he looked into those crimson colored eyes, he could tell she didn't either. There was a heavy sadness that weighed this woman down; he could tell. When he first sensed and realized it was there, he felt his own heart sink.

"Hm..." was his first reply when she spoke of itenerary. He hadn't heard anyone really use that word, but he could guess what it meant. She wasn't very nice, was she? He was trying to be friendly and kind, but he could tell she was pushing him away. The woman just began walking away. As he did, he felt the need to reach out to her, but actually hesitated. It was like something changed him for a moment. It was a flash of white and red and the devastating rumble of shaking earth. He turned away from the woman and walked in the opposite direction down the path. He felt a cold sweat coming on, but at the same time his stomach started to hurt again. It wasn't him being hungry, no. It was him feeling guilty about turning away from a woman that looked so sad.

He stopped and turned back. She was gone. He had fallen into his own thoughts for a few minutes. Shinpachi sighed and shook his head harshly. "Agh! What am I doing?!" Shinpachi began running back in the woman's direction and was off to find her. He had to thank her some how, right? Walking away when she was kind enough to give him food was not the way Shinpachi usually acted. As he ran along, he felt this strange shiver slither up his spine. He stopped for a moment and looked around. A small breeze suddenly picked up, cooling his skin enough to feel comfortable. The fiery devil in the sky wasn't bothering him. A good or bad omen? He didn't know. "Shit..." his energetic demeanor lessened and he started after her again, increasing his pace to find her quickly.

Happiness. It was a fleeting dream for this woman. She had to keep herself from just accidentally killing every person she came across. It wasn't possible for her to just let go and feel free. The fact that fate cursed her in such a way ground at her mood constantly. That's why someone like that man—that happy man—pissed her off. Why do they get the choice of being happy? Why did fate smite just her?

It has been like that since she was a child. It had been so long since she could truly be happy and stress-free that the idea of that happening... it had slowly faded from view. And the questions she asked herself no longer presented themselves. She had accepted it as the world giving a big 'fuck you' to her. And it seemed that everywhere she went, the world was constantly giving her a big, stony middle finger.

Walking along, Aila came to a bridge across a river. A recent storm seemed to have the river higher than usual, and Aila could see parts of trees passing underneath the wooden structure. A gut feeling told her 'no, turn back.' But that gut feeling was telling her to go back and deal with that guy. She cursed at her gut, and proceeded to walk across. Creaking boards sounded like they would give way at any moment, but they did not.

Instead, the entire bridge collapsed as an entire tree rushed down the river and slammed into the middle two support pillars. The wooden construct was no match for mother nature, and it quickly fell. Aila could feel herself in freefall over the 40 feet into the raging river below. There was nothing to grab on, and she tried to scream, but all she could muster was a loud "SONNUVABITCH!"

The water, cold from winter runoff, rushed her downstream. She tried to get her footing, but the small-framed woman had not the strength to do so. She bobbed in and out of the water, her head popping up whenever it could for the vital air supply she needed. Aila turned back as the roar's volume increased; seeing the beginnings of a waterfall. Right. The nearby town was Bay Falls, was it not?

"If I'm going to die, it's not going to be here..." She passed large, jutting rocks and eventually pushed herself off of one to get in line to hit the next one. She felt the impact and nearly howled in pain, but instead latched onto the rock. She wasn't going any further downstream if she had her way.

    Shinpachi Nagakura

"Agh... Where'd she go?" Shinpachi asked himself. There had been a fork in the road back there, so thoughts of him going the wrong direction passed through his mind. He scratched the back of his head and looked left to right a couple times, wondering if he should turn back the other direction. "That scream..." Shinpachi looked back down the path he had chosen to take. He had just heard a feminine scream coming from not too far ahead. It had to be her! Shinpachi picked up the pace, knowing the woman must have needed help if she screamed like that. "Aila!?" he came to the newly broken bridge and looked downward. She had fallen, he knew it. He looked down river and could barely see the shine of red and green appearing and disappearing under the harsh rapids.

"No, no, no!" Shinpachi ran along the cliff side as fast as he could. The river was rushing downwards, the mountain they were on began turning into a steep hill which allowed him to move faster, though he had to be careful not to trip. Shinpachi kept a good eye on her, but it was difficult when dodging the terrain. He lept over a log, weaved in and out of a few trees, and almost fell in when certain parts of the ground almost gave way under him. "Damn it!" he cursed at himself, his heart beginning to race when he realized that the woman might really drown if he didn't hurry his ass up. He decided this terrain was just too much and hopped off the side of the cliff. Shinpachi didn't hit the water though. Instead, the earth of the cliff came out and created a path he could follow.

"Hold on..." he thought to himself as she was able to grab onto a rock. With how slippery those things were after being worn down by the water, holding onto them might have been a little more than difficult. As he ran, he caught sight of what looked like the end of the line too. The water became rougher as it reached it's edge. The fall was coming. Luckily, Shinpachi was close enough to get her now. All he needed was some sort of plan that would work without him falling in right after her.

The water was more painful from the sheer force than it was the temperature. A large torrent was much more painful than many tiny daggers, at least to Aila. She could feel herself being forced deeper into the rock, her aching chest being squeezed against it. Aila could feel a strong headache hitting her as she tried to keep control over her powers. Her emotions ran high right now, and thus her powers ran amok.

But Aila knew that if she did let them go wild, then there would be nothing left for her to grasp onto. And that would be the death of her. But amidst the sound of rushing water, the woman on the verge of death was able to hear the sound of running through the forest. Barely able to turn her head, she tried to see who would be her savio—

"Seriously?" Aila's face went from a fear of going over the waterfall to a dull disbelief of who it was standing on the edge of the water. Why did it have to be him? Or rather... why was he saving her? What did it do for this man? Why did he continue on this path? These questions would bother Aila until the day she died if left unanswered. But this wasn't a place (nor time) to ask questions like that.

"Shinwhatever-your-name-was..." Aila's breathing was pained and raspy, and her voice was barely able to go over the loud roar of the waterfall. "I..." They were not very far apart, but there was enough of a distance so where he couldn't just reach out to grab her. A cracking noise from down the river forced her to turn back more, only to see a log barreling towards her.

Aila, holding onto the rock for dear life was soon reminded that she was not entirely alone. A slight tug at her wrist reminded her that her parasol was attached by a cord. Using what arm length she could, Aila grabbed the cord and pulled the now-broken parasol back to her. Aila moved the cord to her left arm as she held onto it with her right. Aila then extended her hand towards the man who might just be her savior."Grab this... and pull... hurry..." Aila was pleading with this man to save her life. She was going to die on her own terms, and this was not how she wanted to go out.

    Shinpachi Nagakura

To get to Aila, Shinpachi created a bridge made of stone and dirt. It was compacted together quickly and reached out just over her. He made it high enough that other debris from the river shouldn't have been able to reach it to easily. Unfortunately, he was wrong and it made it difficult to easily rescue her. He could hear an incoming log crashing onto previous rocks as the rushing river sent it flying in their direction. He needed to get her out of there now. He lowered himself, laying down on the quickly made bridge and reached out for her. If he had moved any further, the two of them would both have fallen in. "Come on, reach!" he said quickly, his tone worried for both of their survival. "Almost there!" he said as there hands got closer, but they couldn't reach.

"Damn it!" He said angrily and looked back toward the log. At that moment, he heard the bridge he created to get to her begin to crack and felt the earth beneath him shift. When he looked back toward her, she was holding out some strange umbrella thing that looked rather flimsy. She told him to grab it and he didn't hesitate. He grabbed the parasol tighly, feeling a few of the thin pieces of wood break beneath his hand. He pulled her up with all of his strength, feeling the bridge beginning to give way even more. His strength was luckily quite high, so when he pulled on her, she practically glided up from the water and into his arms. Shinpachi wrapped his arms tightly around her, holding her bridal style, and keeping her stable as the log slammed into the already crumbling bridge.

"Agh..." he struggled to regain his footing, but was able to as part of the bridge broke off from under his foot. He ran along the bridge as it was breaking, all of the dirt and rock falling into the rampaging river below. As they came to the end, Shinpachi jumped onto the stable side of the cliff and landed on one knee. He took a deep breath and slowly let it out. Standing up, keeping the woman he practically felt was weightless in his arms as he looked over the side of the cliff. "Close one..." he said calmly and stepped back away from the edge. Once they were a safe distance from danger, Shinpachi looked to Aila and gave a soft smile. The smile was much different than before; it was soft and a lot less goofy than the one she saw when the two met. Also, he did not let her down.

"How badly are you hurt?" Shinpachi asked in a soothing tone. When he wasn't hyper, his voice was lower, deep, and much more mature. He didn't even ask about if she was okay; he knew she was not. She was hurt and would likely need medical attention. "Before you ask, no..." he said as he walked the two of them toward a path he could see through the trees, "I won't let you down, yet. I'd rather you not hurt yourself more because you wanted to walk..." As they came to the road, Shinpachi decided it would be best to follow the direction of the river, so he went down the path toward Bayfalls. "Once we find a town or somewhere to rest... I'll look for a doctor..." he told her as they came to a sign that pointed them in the right direction, "For now, please... Just rest yourself."

Aila did not expect this man to be so strong. He was the size of one horse, but did he have the strength of two? It didn't really matter to Aila right now. He could be the size of ten horses and she'd be just as thankful. This man who she thought was once a goofy, justice-serving freak... Well, he still looked pretty goofy. The fact that someone saved her both brought her joy and pain...

Well, not any more pain than her chest had at this point. As Shinpachi jostled her around, her breathing became erratic and grunts of pain escaped from her tiny mouth. She could not muster up the breath to even tell him to be more gentle. By the time the movement had calmed down, she was back on solid ground. She had no idea where she was whilst being juggled in his arms, but now she could see that the river was no longer right beneath his feet.

Aila's closed eyes opened and she saw a smile which warmed her cold, almost-dead heart. She even blushed slightly, but that quickly faded as she remembered who this was. Aila noticed he wasn't putting her down, but she knew that if she walked, she'd just fall over in pain. Being curled up like this was painful as well, but at least she wasn't walking. He asked how badly she was hurt, and all she wanted to do was stare at him blankly.

"Don't know... My sides and chest hurt like a sonnuvabitch though..." She was still having trouble breathing. And that's when she panicked a little. She tried to reach for her satchel, but it was not there. In fact, it was already down the falls. Then she started to pat at her breasts, wincing at the pain from it. But then she let out a relieved sigh. "Still there..."

After saying he wasn't going to let her down, Aila let out a happy, single chuckle. "I wasn't going to ask you to anyways." Aila adjusted herself to be more comfortable in his arms, and her head nestled into his body slightly. This may be a stranger, but he saved her. Besides, she could kill him at any time. Aila did not even hear him tell her to rest—she was already asleep. Well, passed out was more appropriate.

    Shinpachi Nagakura

She fell asleep. Shinpachi noticed this quickly. Her body relaxed in his arms and her breathing calmed. He could only smile. He walked along the worn dirt path until he finally came to Bayfalls. Although it was called a village, it was large, prosperous, and more like a town. The town sat at the base of a three hundred foot tall cliff, right off the edge of the lake that the waterfall fell into. Some of the town was built into the side of the cliff, but most of it was built on the flat ground surrounding the water. The buildings are made of stone and wood. The people of Bayfalls are strong and hard workers. This place is known for it's master craftsman and carpenters. As Shinpachi made it into the village, the first thing he decided to do was ask for directions toward the inn; whatever one he'd be able to afford.

He arrived and gave up the last pieces of silver he had to get a room; there was a bathroom with a small shower and one bed. It was all the poor guy could afford and that meant he didn't have any money for food! As he stepped into the room, the innkeeper being kind and quiet enough to lead him there without waking the sleeping woman, he gently laid her down on the bed and requested a doctor or healer after explaining the waterfall incident. The innkeeper nodded and left, leaving Shinpachi and Aila there to wait. He covered her up to keep her warm and sat on the floor next to the bed. He faced her and watched for a bit, not knowing what else to do, but soon felt he was falling asleep. He tried to stay awake, but failed and his body leaned forward until his head met the side of the mattress and he fell asleep. His body slouched forward and his face mushed into the side of the mattress.

And yes, after a few minutes of sleep, Shinpachi would begin to snore...

Aila was completely passed out during that trip to Bayfalls. She might have liked to look at the pretty flowers growing along the riverbank or to have stopped in that florist's shop. But no, not today. She was dead asleep, and she felt half-dead. But dead men tell no tales, and Aila's tale was not over. Struggling against the current and getting slammed into a rock like that was tiring. Plus, the pain. It was amazing she was able to sleep with that pain.

In her unconscious state, Aila did dream. Her life went back before her eyes, and she remembered a certain scene... The last time she felt truly happy about someone. It started blissful and almost euphoric. She remembered the sensation she felt, but right as it was getting to the best and worst part...

    Knock. Knock. Knock.

Aila groaned as she was awoken by a strange knocking. She realized she was in a bed soon after, but she did not know where exactly she was. "Hello, I heard someone requested a doctor?" "Huh? Uh... Yeah, one moment." Aila winced as she tried to sit up. She wouldn't be able to walk around just yet. Looking around, she tried to see where Shinpachi was...

And as she looked down at her feet, she noticed a handsome young man passed out just like she was. It was a little cute, but she'd never tell him that. Hell, why was she even thinking that? "Hey... Can you get that?" She called out to him to no avail. "Hey, wake up." Aila's voice raised, but still nothing. The third time is the charm and with a swift movement of her leg, she kicked him in the head hard enough he would wake up.

"Wake up, dammit! The doctor's here and I can't unlock the door." Aila was still in her soaking wet clothes, and she wanted to get out of them as soon as possible... Except for the fact those were her only clothes. Period. She'd figure something out. Her pouch of platinum was still safe sitting between her love-mounds after all.

    Shinpachi Nagakura

Roast. Steaks. Mashed potatoes and gravy. Corn. Ham. Turkey. Food, food, food, food, food!! That was all this young man was dreaming about. He hadn't had a decent meal in weeks! He needed one so badly. He could smell the delicious sauces. He could feel the texture of nicely cooked meat fall over his tongue. He could feel the... slight pain in his head? Shinpachi's eyes shot open and he jumped like an acrobat to his feet. Taking a quick stance, as if he was ready to fight, he looked left, right, up down, around, and then to Aila. "Oh... You res-..." he was interrupted by another knock at the door. Shinpachi blinked a couple times and went over to the door, slowly cracking it open to see who it was. "Heelllloooo?" he said with a playful suspicion, "Whoo are yooouuu?"

"The doctor, now let me in so I can treat the woman." the doctor said. Shinpachi nodded and stepped to the side, opening the door so the woman could step in. She shot Shinpachi an annoyed glare and shook her head. "Frustrating young people..." The woman was on the older side, but not that old. Maybe mid-fifties. She walked over to Aila with her medical bag. "Alright dear... Where does it hurt?" the woman asked. From there, the woman examined her, but then actually began using some sort of healing magics to lessen the pain and re-set any ribs. "I cannot take away any injuries, but this numbing should last for at least a week." the woman explained, "You're still hurt, so be careful. No rough housing..." The woman glared at Shinpachi after she said that last bit.

"What? What did I do!?" Shinpachi whined a bit, placing his head on the back of his head, "I didn't hurt her or anything... ya know? It was like... a freak accident. That damn bridge up there collapsed... I didn't mean to!" Shinpachi sat down and turned away from them both, facing the wall. For some reason, he felt really, really guilty all of a sudden and didn't understand why. Was it his fault Aila got hurt? "He's... a strange one, isn't he?" the woman whispered to Aila, "He obviously didn't get what I meant..." The woman was actually commenting toward having a "rough sex life". That didn't even cross Shinpachi's mind. Now, poor Shinpachi was wondering whether the way he carried her was wrong, or was it when he laid her down, or should he not have fallen asleep!?

Aila would have liked to sleep more. She was having a nice dream, even if the ending would have made her sadder. But oh well. At least with a doctor here, she'd have a chance of saying 'haha, fuck you' to the pain. Aila wanted to sit up to get a better look at the doctor, but there was no way she could without howling in pain... And she didn't want to worry this man anymore.

The fact he remained in this room was odd to her. It showed a care she hadn't seen in a very, very long time. She didn't know whether to trust him or not. Well, that's not entirely true. She didn't know whether to trust him in the long run. Right now, he had just risked his own life to save her... and all she did was give him a roll. Aila actually started to regret how she treated him initially.

As the doctor examined her, Aila pointed to her waist and legs, and as the doctor slowly touched each sore spot, her body tensed up and she inhaled sharply. Pain was not her favorite thing in the world. Slowly, the doctor's treatment began. At first, it stung like a sonnuvabitch. But slowly and surely, the pain began to numb itself. Even after she stopped, it still hurt, but Aila could feel lingering effects.

The doctor explained the effects should last a week, and then reminded Aila she was still injured. It's not like Aila didn't know that, but it's what she did next which caught Aila off-guard. Glaring at Shinpachi, she said "No rough housing..." Aila didn't know what she meant by that. What were they going to do? Fight? Box? Wrestle? Have se—waaaaaaaait a minute.

It took Aila a few seconds to get what the doctor said. And the moment she did, only the white of her eye separated her skin from her irises from being one large chain of scarlet. "I-it's not like that, Doctor..." Aila turned her head and crossed her arms under her love-mounds, almost as if she were both hiding them and telling him to look at the same time. "He did just save me... And that's the extent of this relationship..." Aila couldn't look at either of them now.

The doctor asked if he was a strange one. Aila smiled a little, but that quickly faded into her normal, half-blank expression. "He's very strange..." Aila then buried her mouth into a pillow as she mumbled "...but maybe that strange is something I like..." It was not love at first sight. Frankly, she hated the guy at first sight. But the fact that someone stuck their neck out for her was warming to her.

Aila reached into her shirt and pulled out a pouch and tossed the doctor a single platinum piece. "That should be enough to cover your services." As the doctor did not have to do much in terms of medicine, it was merely a convenience fee. "Please, keep the change." As the doctor left, Aila tucked the pouch back into her shirt and turned her head back towards the ceiling, but still not towards Shinpachi. "Thank you..." Those words were hard-pressed from Aila's lips. "For saving me, that is... I probably would have died if it weren't for you being there..."

    Shinpachi Nagakura

Shinpachi stayed in his little spot facing the wall until the doctor left. As the woman did leave, Shinpachi took note of that platinum piece that she had just been paid with. His eyes widened and stars shined brightly in them. Once the door was closed, he rocked back and forth on the floor and giggled. "Hehehe. She's lucky, I haven't seen that much money since I entered a bank in Zakat." Shinpachi turned around, sliding his butt along the floor until he got to Aila. He titled his head slightly, looking at her for a moment to see if he could notice physical signs of her feeling better. There weren't really any. He was about to say something, but she spoke up first and the thank you surprised him.

"Oh..." he rubbed the back of his head and glanced away from her for a moment. He hoped it wouldn't, but it might have been a bit startling for his voice to suddenly ring out right next to her. Slouching abit and setting his elbows on his knees, he gave her a nice smile. "Nah, don't worry about it..." he told her, sort of waving it off, "You helped me out too, ya know? I mean... No one else was nice enough to give me some food. And without meeting you, I wouldn't of found this town. I walked right passed it when I missed that fork in the road. So... I mean... Yeah, thank you too." His smile got a bit bigger and he scooted away until his back was against the far wall. "I need some rest, so I'ma try and sleep. After that, job huntin'!" Shinpachi closed his eyes, and a moment later...

    He was snoring again...

This man was definitely odd. She could hear him getting closer, but never heard him stand up. He seemed to deflect her thanks, which did not sit well with her. This man wasn't trying to be offensive, but it seemed like there was something too selfless about him. He was a good man, but was he too good? Aila closed her eyes as she thought about how good of a person she wasn't.

In his rambling, one word did catch her ear. Nice. Someone called her nice? She wanted to laugh it off, but even she knew that'd be rude. She wasn't a nice person... She hurt so many people... Someone like her couldn't be nice. As he thanked her, she replied sadly "You're welcome..." As Shinpachi scooted back to the wall, Aila exhaled, her pain obviously still bothersome. She soon joined her savior in a slumber, although hers lasted far less.

Waking up about two hours later, Aila noticed Shinpachi was still dead-asleep. It had begun to darken, and nightfall was approaching. Aila sat up, noticing quickly the pain was nowhere near as bad. She thought for a moment and wrote a small note on a provided pad telling him she'd be back later. As she left, Aila placed the blanket from the bed across Shinpachi. Her first stop: a new parasol.

    [HOURS LATER]

What started as a trip to get a new parasol and dry underwear turned into a meeting of a woman she felt bad for. Something was broken within her it seemed, and Aila felt a small connection. That connection is what gave her the idea to take the woman back with her. It was already well past nightfall, and Aila hoped Shinpachi would still be asleep when they got there... Shit, Aila forgot to mention Shinpachi to the woman.

As they got to the door for the room, Aila stopped and turned around. "Listen... There's... someone else in my room. He won't hurt you, and if he does..." Aila just gave a very threatening look to the woman. It wasn't directed at her, but it was showing that she would be protected by the plaid-dress woman. Aila unlocked the door and with a creak, entered the room. "Hey, Shinbachi..." She looked around to see if he was awake, but he didn't seem to be in the main room. "Uh... I have a guest that will be staying the night with us... Don't touch her or I'll be sure to gut you, okay~?" Aila seemed... unnaturally gleeful as she threatened him.

"Another person?" Kyra followed Aila along. Her own pain had lessened as they walked, so she wasn't limping as much. As they entered the room, Kyra looked around carefully. She noted the 'he' Aila had used, so obviously the person was male. It took all she had not to try and book it from there. "Hey Aila!" Shinpachi called out from an open door. A tiny bit of steam could be seen airing it's way out, so it was easily assumed he had recently gotten out of the shower. Kyra was surprised by the energetic greeting Aila had recieved. "So that's your name?" Kyra said, "I didn't remember it being said before... So, I'm Kyra, if I hadn't already told you." The entire time she was speaking, Kyra's eyes locked onto that open door, waiting for the man within to emerge.

"I had to ask for some clothes since mine are dirty, so they gave me these pants." Shinpachi stepped out around the corner and pointed to a pair of grey sweat pants that he was wearing. He had a towel over his head to dry his hair and his shirt was off, revealing a well-toned physique. He was looking downward, rubbing his towel along his head to dry his hair as Aila threatened him. His head snapped up and he looked toward the gleeful woman. "But I... I di-... I won't hurt her or nuthin'! Come on, Aila. You can trust me, I swear." he said holding the towel around his neck and then looked to Kyra, "You both can..." Shinpachi froze and stared at Kyra for a moment. Seeing that, she jumped and stepped behind Aila, narrowing her eyes evilly at Shinpachi, who just smiled.

"Wow... Haha." Shinpachi smiled widely and rubbed the back of his head, "Look at me. I get to hang out with two beautiful women. That's never happened before." Kyra jumped again at the compliment and looked to Aila. Her left eye twitched, as if she couldn't handle that. "What's wrong with him?! Does he have the disease the other one did?" Kyra asked and Shinpachi's jaw dropped. He was stuck. "Di-Disease?" he repeated, his tone rather strained. He glanced back and forth between Aila and this new woman. That comment left him heartbroken! "That's just mean... What did I do to you?" Shinpachi brought his hanging head back up and then noticed something, pointing toward Kyra, "Are you alright? You seem hurt and you've got dirt all over your legs. Water is still warm, so you can use the shower."

Shit, Aila forgot to introduce herself. Or did she? It would be best to err on the side of caution. Besides, she didn't remember this woman's name if they had been introduced before... "Ah... Sorry about that. Yes, my name is Aila. Sorry we had to meet under such... bad circumstances." Aila stood between her and the open bathroom door. This wasn't to protect Shinpachi, but to be a wall between Kyra and him for Kyra's sake.

Aila blinked as Shinpachi rounded the corner. She knew he was strong because he apparently carried her all the way back... But damn. Aila was a little taken aback at his muscles. She hadn't seen someone like that before that wasn't some professional bodybuilder. She'd be lying if she said seeing it on a real person wasn't attractive. As Kyra jumped back behind Aila more, the green-haired woman just extended a hand behind her for Kyra to hold. She was telling her it would be okay.

And once again, this man surprised her. Just as Kyra jumped, Aila froze. Beautiful? What, her? Ehhhh?! That must be incorrect. Kyra asked if the man was diseased, and Aila didn't know at this point. "I think he's just trying to be nice... He could be like that other guy, but I don't get the same vibe..." Aila even took a step back. This was weird to her! Gah, why was he nice?!

And then, Shinpachi said something smart. He offered her the shower. Aila looked back and nodded, saying it'd be safe. "Kyra, if you want... I can help. I'm... not entirely sure what I should be doing in terms of helping you." Kyra accepted the help, and asked Aila to stand by the door. Aila agreed and stood in front of the door like a sentry. She motioned for Shinpachi to come over though.

As he approached, Aila put a finger in front of her mouth to tell him to be quiet as she leaned in to whisper something to him. "Listen, she's been through some... bad things tonight. She seems to be uneasy around men, and rightfully so... Can you please try to be calm around her? And... please don't approach her unless she asks you to. If she needs help, get me instead, okay?" Aila looked back to the door, where Kyra was showering. "If she's gone through that multiple times... May the Gods be with her..."

"Yeah, I'm a nice guy. You don't have to worry about me hurting you." Shinpachi confirmed what Aila said, but then realized something, "Hey! Just because I said you're both beautiful, doesn't mean I'm just trying to be nice. I don't lie." Shinpachi gave a slight glare that made Kyra glare back, though it was obviously playful from his end. As Kyra went toward the shower, Shinpachi took a couple steps back. She was watching him like a hawk and it even made him feel uncomfortable. The way she was walking bothered him. He was pretty observant, even if a little goofy at times. She had dirt along the back of her dress, elbows, and legs. Her hair was messed up in the back, pretty much giving away the fact that she had been on her back for a while. This pissed Shinpachi off.

Shinpachi was lost in thought over what happened to Kyra while Aila was helping her in the shower. Kyra had a difficult time getting her clothes off, but managed. And when she got under the warm water, some of the pain seemed to ease. She just wished this was actually a bath and not just a shower. At least then she would have been able to sit down. She glanced back to make sure Aila was really watching the door and relaxed when it was confirmed. Aila seemed pretty decent to Kyra at least, but this Shinpachi guy freaked her out. Shinpachi did his best to stay away from the bathroom, but when Aila called him over, he did what she asked. What she told him though, Shinpachi felt his stomach turn. All that did was confirm his suspicions about what he saw. He sighed.

"She was... attacked... by men in that way... wasn't she?" Shinpachi looked away, his eyes narrowed angrily, though the rest of his face stayed stoic. It was probably the calmest he had been seen by Aila. "I understand... I'll stay away from her." Shinpachi closed his eyes for a moment and shook his head, "Some people in this world... deserve to die. Anyone who purposefully harms the innocent... I can't stand those types of people." Shinpachi stepped over to the opposite side of the room and sat down in the corner to the right of the door. "Have you guys eaten? You hungry?" he asked, wondering about something he could eat, "I'm sorta starvin', so I can go try and find some work for a little bit of coin... It's just a little late, so I don't know how many people would be open right now."

It was then that Kyra stepped out of the bathroom hot, wet, and completely naked. Shinpachi jumped and blushed turned toward the wall, placing his face against it. "I'm not looking! No hitting me! I swear! I'm not." He lifted his arm and pointed to himself, "See. I'm facing the wall! No bad eyes over here, nope." Kyra blinked about a hundred times, went to say something, hesitated, and then actually giggled. "Your friend is the weirdest male I've ever met, even weirder than that last one." Kyra shook her head and held out her dirty dress, "I don't know what to do with this... It's... kinda bloody and dirty..." Shinipachi perked up, still facing the wall, "Oh yeah. Oh... no. I don't have any money, Ugh." Shinpachi let his head fall up against the wall again, "I would have gone to get you guys new clothes..."

Spending his money on anyone who needs help... This is why he never has money...

Aila was almost saddened while helping Kyra out. This woman had been through so much physically—that she could tell. Aila's torment was only mental. The fact that women like her get treated in such a way... It made someone being happy and relaxed about the world constantly piss her off more. Why did 'normal' people get to enjoy the world?! Why, why, why?! Aila could feel herself start to shake, and as Kyra stepped into the actual shower, Aila just smiled and told her she'd be right outside the door if she needed anything.

Aila sighed heavily and slumped against the door as she exited. Noticing Shinpachi mulling about the room, she motioned for him to come over. After telling him to keep his distance, Aila barely picked up something. His smile... it was gone. That goofy, almost-always-jubilant expression... was now incredibly calm. And he asked the question. Aila looked away for a moment awkwardly, using silence to confirm he was right.

After he caught that... He understood. Aila was thankful he did, otherwise this would be awkward as hell. Shinpachi shambled over to the living area and took a seat in one of the corners. After a few moments of awkward silence, he broke it by asking about food. Shit. Something else she forgot. "I haven't eaten a damn thing today." Aila patted her stomach. "I'll ask when she gets ou—"

As Aila tried to finish that sentence, the door she rested on disappeared. Well, it moreso just opened, but for her back, it just went poof. Aila stumbled for a moment, catching herself in the doorway, although the momentum forced her to spin. She got a nice look at Kyra's cleavage... as well as everything else. This... was actually the first time she had seen another women naked other than her own mother.

Aila blinked for a moment, stuck at what she was seeing. Collecting herself with a mild blush, Aila stood back up as Kyra giggled. That was a good sign... right? Aila just sighed, and turned towards him. "He is a strange one all right..." And then Aila was handed the dress. It was... pissing her off again. "If I still had my satchel, I could clean all of this up..." Aila sighed, as it was a pretty dress that should never have been ruined like that.

"If you want something to sleep in, there might be a robe in one of the closets... or I can give you a pair of underwear I bought today. Or if you want, you can sleep in this." Aila pointed to her own dress. "Tomorrow... either I'll go or I'll send Shinbachi there," she pointed with her thumb, "to get the item I need to clean your dress... Unless you want a new one, then we'll have to figure something else out."

"In the meantime..." Aila once again reached into her shirt, pulling out the pouch that dangled across her neck. She tossed a platinum piece at Shinpachi. "Go find us something to eat, but don't spend all of that." Shinpachi was worried about money, but he had no idea just how many jingling silvery metal plates she had stored between her love-mounts.

Kyra went over to the closet when the robes were mentioned, glancing back once to see what the "this" Aila mentioned was. "No, I wouldn't take your clothes, but thank you." she said as she opened the closet. There were a few different sized robes in there. It was surprising that people would do this. Won't most customers just steal the robes the moment they were leaving? As Kyra pulled one off the hanger and wrapped it around herself, she realized that it was a pretty thick robe. It would definitely keep her warm, but it also wasn't the most expensive thing either. Unless you had no clothes, like she currently did, there was no point in trying to steal something that was made this horridly. "This isn't bad. It will due for now." Kyra said and tied the belt nicely around her waist.

Shinpachi snuck a peek toward Kyra, assuming by her words that she had been covered and sighed of relief when it was true. "Send me for it? I can help, but I don't know much about fixin' dresses and clothes or anything like that..." Shinpachi rubbed the back of his head and sighed, "I might end up gettin' the wrong thing, but if you want me to walk with ya to find the thing yer' looking for, I will." Shinpachi blinked a couple times at Aila reaching into her shirt; a moment later, he was tossed a platinum piece. He looked to the coin and back to Aila with a shocked smile on his face. "Really!? Aw, cool. I haven't had a good meal in so long!" Shinpachi stood up and gave a thumbs up as he turned toward the door, "An' don't worry, I'll bring ya' change back once I have the food."

And with that, Shinpachi stepped out of the hotel room and was off to get food. Kyra looked toward Aila with an eyebrow raised. "Do you seriously trust that fool?" she asked condescendingly, "He seems like an idiot to me, though he's probably just putting on one of those acts that men do." Kyra stepped over to a chair and sat down, bringing her hair from her back around one shoulder and fiddling with it. "He'll change... They always change... They can't hide their true selves forever. And then he'll hurt us..." Kyra narrowed her eyes, speaking in a slight mumble. In the meantime, Shinpachi didn't have to travel too far to get any food. He made it to a nice place and ordered fifteen gold worth of nicely prepared food, received the money he was owed, and began making his way back toward his room.

"Alright, I'm back!" Shinpachi stepped back into the room and placed a large bag of food on the table, along with a few plates. He then pulled out the change and handed it to Aila. "Here ya go, thanks so much." he said as he handed it to her and went back toward the food. He made himself a plate and sat down on the floor in the corner to make sure he was keeping his distance from Kyra. After that, Kyra too made herself a plate, though with much smaller proportions than Shinpachi had taken. "Don't be such a pig." Kyra said with a glare at him. Shinpachi blinked a few times, finished a bite he had taken, and looked up to her. "I haven't had a good meal in a long time. After this, I don't know when I'll be able to eat again!" Shinpachi said as he glared at Kyra a bit and then turned his back to her, now facing the wall as he ate instead of those heavily judging eyes of hers. She made him feel uncomfortable.

Even if she has gone through hell, did she have to be such a bitch?

Aila shook her head when Shinpachi mentioned the idea of them walking there. "I'd rather not leave her alone." Aila glanced over to Kyra, almost in an understanding way. Truthfully, Aila figured that they had very different experiences. However, the fact that someone else was in a state of being like Aila—at least in her perception—made Aila want to connect with this woman. This also made her want to protect her as well, which is something Aila had never felt before. She didn't want any further tragedy to befall herself or this new woman.

"It's just a simple item I need. I can describe it to you, and unless the person is blind, deaf, and stupid, then they'll be able to get you one most likely." Aila waved Shinpachi off as he left, and then Kyra spoke up. The questions she asked were pointed, and Aila just shrugged. "Do I think he's going to stab me in my sleep? No. Do I think I can rely on him to provide money and a stable lifestyle? I don't know. So I can't really say I trust him, but I also don't think he'll harm me—or you."

"I don't think that I have more faith in men or anything... I just figure I can kill him," Aila reached down and picked up a twig left over from her rescue earlier, snapping it as she leaned back up, " "just like that." She smiled as she did so, almost in a way of saying "Don't worry, I can handle him. "If he tries to hurt you, let me know, okay?"

A little bit after that, Shinpachi returned with food. Aila was surprised at how quickly he handed her change back, and she quickly stuffed it back into the pouch between her love mounds. Shinpachi fixed his plate first, then Kyra, and Aila was last. Aila didn't get a large amount of food, but she did get more than Kyra. Kyra shot a comment to Shinpachi which Aila actually didn't care for. Her eyes narrowed a moment, but with a sigh, she just continued with preparing her meal.

"He did also work up an appetite after saving me earlier. I can't really blame him for being a little more hungry than normal..." Aila took a bite—unfortunately it was bland to her. A side-effect of the medicines perhaps, but she didn't quite let it show. "But if you're going to eat like that on a normal basis, you're going to need to work for your food." Aila tried to be a middle ground. Shinpachi did save her, but she didn't quite want to make Kyra feel like she was being ganged up on.

After an awkwardly-silent meal, Aila stretched and stood up. "Thank you for getting that." Aila didn't look Shinpachi in the eyes as she thanked him and moved over to the one bed in the room. "Kyra... if you want, you can sleep in the bed with me. I don't snore, and I don't think I move much when I'm asleep..." Aila didn't want to put Shinpachi or Kyra out of a bed... but she knew that with her injuries, sleeping on the floor would be a bad idea. Plus, Kyra might benefit from sleeping in a bed, so it might just work...

It took a moment for there to be any reaction from Kyra. Aila was a little a worried, but then once Kyra nodded, Aila's tension lessened. "Good, good. Why don't we get ready for sleeping then? I'll make sure neither the bed bugs nor anything—or anyone—else bite."
