Fragment of Happiness [private] Empty Fragment of Happiness [private]

    [Silim Savertin]

Nothing, nothing but darkness. But the floor was wet - with a sticky, sickeningly warm liquid. A small bit of light appeared, brought light to the shallow sea of blood in which Silim was standing. The light became brighter and brighter, and suddenly, the floor was gone. Submerged in warm, disgusting blood, he sunk deeper and deeper, unable to breathe. The light took a shape... A terrible shape, one known all too well to him. A shape of something that had once been beautiful... But was now the bringer of nothing but death.

The young sorcerer nearly jumped out of bed as he awoke. Cold sweat was running down his forehead - his breathing was accelerated, as if he had just returned from running a race or two. No, more than that - as if he had just gotten done fighting for his life. The nightmare was already fading from memory, but that terrible shape remained - Silim knew that shape, from somewhere or sometime in his forgotten past. His head hurt just thinking about it - and if the hunch in his gut was right, then he should be lucky about how the dream ended so abruptly. He could do without knowing what the thing chasing him through his dreams was, and he certainly never wanted to see it in reality. He was known as a 'young man without fear', but this was the one thing he definitely feared.
Getting out of bed while making as little noise as possible, a quick look at a clock revealed it to be slightly past midnight. Great, there was no way he could go back to sleep after such a nightmare... He'd just return right to it, like the last time he tried that. The man without memory slipped into his casual clothes, before sneaking out of his dormitory room.

Not that he had any specific goal in mind, no. Just walking around was fine. Mayvbe he should go to the roof - watching the stars might help him forget the shape, and he could go back to sleep. So now he was sneaking through the night, heading towards the stairs. It was odd how quickly he became used to the academy... Up until a few days ago, he had been a drifter, without any home or friends to speak of. Now, he was part of this place... it was his new home. He had arcane power within him - that was all he needed to be accepted as a student. A background check was obviously useless on him - there was no history, no past, to check. At least not one that was known to anyone in the civilized world. Little did Silim know that tonight, he'd meet someone who would make both his decision to come here, and his dedication in safeguarding the school in gratitude, improve even further.

It was but another uneventful morning. That was the best kind of morning for this frail-seeming girl. It was but another uneventful afternoon. That was the best kind of afternoon for this kind, reserved girl. And it was beginning to be but another uneventful night. That was the best kind of night for this girl who wanted nothing to happen. But... it wouldn't last. Her heart skipped, and the other's beat in its place. She didn't know what it was... but she stopped where she was, hand holding her now-racing chest.

Why... why did it have to start to appear? Was it something in the air? Was something so terrible... no, the more she thought, the more she'd fear it. And the more fear she felt, the more it fed on her. The more it would eat at her will until it appeared. She shook her head, trying to think of more pleasant things. She looked at the darkened buildings, illuminated only by the moonlight. Night classes had already ended long ago, so many buildings were now unlit on both inside and outside. But still, she had to walk all the way back to her dormitory.

She looked at the moon, its dazzling white beauty hanging in the blackened sky above. She hated the night. The darkness of it only reminded her of it. But still, she had to get back. She had fallen asleep in the library on complete accident after a hard cram session and was only awakened by a night guard about to lock up. While her attention was captured by the moon, her foot stepped on nothing but air. She thought it was going to be an even floor, but it wasn't. Instead, she had just stepped onto the beginning of a flight of stairs. She caught herself if only to keep herself upright during the tumble. Instead of rolling, she simply painfully slid down one flight on her back. She thought she heard someone coming up the stairs... and her heart skipped again, only for it to beat...

Silim looked up when he suddenly heard some rather loud noises coming from directly above him - and what he saw looked painful. A young woman had just gone down the flight of stairs in front of him on her backside, interrupting his way to the rooftop. Not that he minded it much, though - a welcome distraction from the troubling thoughts within his own mind. He accelerated his own movements and reached the spot on which she came to a halt, reaching out his right hand down to her. A kind smile on his face framed by messy dark blue hair, with equally blue, but warm and sparkling eyes.

"That looked like quite the fall. Let me help you up." Silim offered his help right away. Normally he didn't care too much for strangers right away, but someone else being on the move in the middle of the night wasn't exactly the norm, even in this academy. That alone took his attention. Now that he was so close to her after rushing over, Silim also noticed something else - this young woman was stunningly beautiful. Weaker men might've stumbled over their own words based on that fact alone, but for the male sorcerer, the beauty of her was secondary to the fact that she was obviously in pain. "It's quite difficult to see the way here when it is dark, with the moon being the only reliable light." Although today was a full moon - during other days, it was even harder to see something at night here. Oddly enough, Silim mostly had to deal with sleepless nights when the full moon was out... And without the fullmoon, he probably wouldn't even be able to clearly see the young woman with the long, violet hair, much less actually be able to see her properly.

"Are you hurt? I can escort you to the infirmary, if you want." Offering even more of his help, Silim was still smiling. Helping someone out would probably put his mind at ease more than just staring at a big, glowing moon in the sky from the roof.
