The chattering of students marked the end of the school day, at least for about half of the students within Rydian. Those who did not participate in any kinds of activities outside of their schooling would be on their way back to their own quarters, while some would be going to after-school jobs. Nami, however, while she was normally supposed to return straight back to her home, was instead putting gear on. Padded armor here, a mask there--she was preparing for her time at the Fencing Club. It wasn't something that her mother would have approved of, however her mother did not need to know. She would just inform her that she was studying in the Academy's library, which was something that her mother tended to believe. After all, why would her completely obedient and subservient daughter lie to her? It would have been unheard of. No, Nami was sure that her mother did not know anything about what she was doing, nor did she believe that her father would have even cared that she was. She took up her weapon and began to perform her drills.

Her natural propensity for learning had allowed her to quite quickly and easily pick up most of the basics, and within the year-and-a-half she had been with the club, she had come quite close to being the top student in this. Unfortunately, being the number one student brought with it certain responsibilities that took time outside of the usual club hours; something that Nami could not afford to do with her mother watching over her shoulder every time she came home even fifteen minutes after she was meant to. Instead, she would always purposefully do one thing wrong in their testing, which would skew her results to being slightly below the top margin, and allowing one other student to instead take that position. She didn't mind this. She was supposed to be invisible to anybody but her man, after all--so without a man, she was nothing but invisible. She did not exist, as far as she was concerned. They were aware, the club heads, that she was doing this on purpose; but they understood. She was a von Hildebrand. This was toeing the line more than was necessary, they understood. They also approved of it; few people appreciated the attitudes of the von Hildebrand women towards their daughters.

Anyways, she would continue on with her drills until someone called out her name. Turning, she noticed that she was being approached by one of the senior club members. "Nami, there is someone new to the club. They wish to be tested, so I feel like our top student could test against them." She frowned, narrowed her eyes slightly and looked towards the door, "...get him geared up, I'll be there soon enough." She kept the mask on and turned back around, finishing the last of her drills. Whoever they were, they could wait until she was damn well ready to test them.

    The New Guy [Private] Q20H6iK

Going to a club actually went against Silim's normal attitude in a few ways. He wasn't known as the most social of guys, amongst the few who actually knew the name of the blue-haired student that had just popped up in the academy one day recently, with his head seemingly in the clouds. But that was part of why he was here in the first place - he felt empty and a bit bored here, with only his studies of arcana and nothing else. Finding some people he could connect with on a personal level, finding someone to talk to more than once every few weeks - maybe that would help him get used to life a bit easier. When he read the names of the clubs, only three really stood out to him in the first place: Fencing, Kendo, and Firearms. Almost like a three-way street, he decided to only take a single route on this day, and explore what it had in store for him.

Now, he was getting ready for his first actual club activity since his start at the academy, and the senior member who just secured him someone to test his talent with returned, holding a stack of protective gear. With a flick of the wrist, Silim put away his music player, giving a small smile and then being helped into the gear. Oddly enough, it was quite easy for him to put it on, only requiring minimal help - either he had seen this before, and was unconsciously remembering it, or this wasn't his first time putting on such protective clothes, and he still had some muscle memory for it. Either way was good, it meant he was nearing some part of his lost memories here. Either the senior member didn't notice Silim's apparent familiarity with the protective gear, or simply chose to not comment on it for now.
"She'll be here in a bit, so just get yourself used to moving around in the clothes. I gotta get back to my own training." Waving a small goodbye, the senior member went over to his guys again to resume training for himself. Silim himself got out a black headband to force his hair to stay away from his eyes - his blue, smooth hair had the annoying habit of hanging in front of one of his eyes at one point or another, which usually wasn't too big of a problem, but it could really get annoying in physical activities. The main reason why he never changed his hair was simple - they looked like this when he first woke up, so keeping this hairstyle might help someone recognize him at one point.

As he finished putting on the headband, Silim turned around towards the door his senior had come from, thinking he heard something. Looking on towards whoever would test his ability today, he put on the last piece of his protective gear to make sure no rapier would land in his eye today.

"Thanks for taking the time to judge me. This is... quite important to me." said the blue-haired youth, preparing for his first practice match.

She looked down at her weapon while she heard people milling about, taking careful note of its lines and its ends. She knew this weapon like an extension of her own body by now, and yet didn't understand how she would be able to use such a flimsy piece of metal to protect herself. In all fairness, it almost seemed laughable that this was even a consideration. It was no weapon, it was a toy, and would be used as such. Looking up, she noticed that he had yet to put his mask on. Instead, he was wearing a headband and looking like a idiot while doing so. The gear looked fine on him, though she'd definitely be able to find a few faults in where it was placed. She didn't fault him, or the person who outfitted him. It was his first time, after all. Instead, she stood up and looked him over with another raised eyebrow, "Put your mask on, we don't need to poke out an eye on day one. That'd make more work than necessary, after all--fencing without depth perception is a fool's errand." Her voice was cold and level, not really sounding like she cared one bit. He seemed to follow instructions just fine, however, strapping the protective helmet to his armor and preparing himself. He seemed to move with a fencer's natural poise, which was something. It appeared that he had done it before--which confused Nami. Would she not have seen this man if he had fenced before? Was he a first year student? He was taller than she, though that was almost always a given. Lanky, even with the bulk of the armor. Probably quick, too. And when she thought all was over, he spoke.

"Thanks for taking the time to judge me. This is... quite important to me." She pursed her lips and frowned, "You ask to spar one of the best students, and thank her for being about to do what she's doing? You seem strange. Come with me." She led him off, taking him towards one of the many piste in the centre of the area. A few students practiced on other ones, but she guided him towards an unused one. "To the other side. I gather you at least understand the basics?" She waited until he responded, before explaining anyway, "Body shots only. There are two lines," she motioned towards them, "Where we are to be on guard. That is where the combat occurs. If you hit on the body, you score a point. The first one to score five points, wins. We cannot go back beyond the edges of the piste, or we grant a point to our opponent. It's preferable that we do not cross the centre line." She tilted her head, "Understood? Good." She approached her own line, before tersely bowing to her opponent, "Approach the line when you are ready, en garde." She held her weapon in a defensive position, waiting for him to be prepared. When he was ready and had his weapon in his own position, she would make her first strike.

The attack would go for the right side of his chest, if he managed to deflect it, she would pull back and attempt to defend herself, before counterattacking again. If she were to hit him, she would hold up a hand--the same would happen if he were to hit her. Either way, she would move over to the counter and adjust it appropriately, before taking up a position again.

    The New Guy [Private] Q20H6iK

Attaching his helmet to the armor was actually quite easy, as it turned out. The voice of the girl was quite... cold, almost biting in a way, and rather uncaring. But despite that, she seemed... different from other people he had met. Almost as if a nearly unseen radiance was around her - a premonition, or perhaps just his mind playing a trick because he was about to find out if he knew more about fencing than he thought? It was hard to say, but she was the first person he met in the academy that made him feel something strange. Could she perhaps actually be from Tartarus? No, there was no way someone else survived that town, not without him knowing - so that wasn't the cause.

Looking at her in protective gear, holding the graceful weapon in her hands, she seemed like a complete pro - he was sure that compared to her, he'd look like a beekeeper that forgot how half of his suit worked. She was smaller than him, even though he wasn't that tall of a guy - yet that wasn't too surprising for a teenager. He imagined that this girl was quite quick on her feet, and very skilled - apparently, she was the top student of the club, according to the guy who helped outfit him earlier. Hopefully, he wouldn't embarrass himself too badly - really, he felt somewhat bad about even asking someone this skilled to help him. There was a good chance that this was a fool's errant, and that he'd never return to the club if it didn't trigger any latent memories. This wasn't just some fun activity for him... Perhaps it really should be, but he was too focused on getting his memories restored.

When she reacted to his thanks, he tilted his head slightly, almost unnoticeable now with the headgear on. Wasn't it only natural to thank someone for helping, even if you asked for that help at first? Or was he too eager to thank someone before they actually helped? Needless to say, the man without memory wasn't too sure about his own social skills.
"I get that... a lot. Being strange, I mean. Sorry about that." he said, before listening to her explanation about fencing. He knew a few of the rules, but others were new to him, so he listened closely, nodding sometimes slightly during her talk.
"Understood. Thanks for explaining." Thanking her again, maybe needlessly once more, he stepped up to his own line, raising his own rapier and taking position, one leg slightly forward, showing only his side towards the enemy, and the free hand stretched back and to the side for balance. Yes, this felt... familiar. Even seeing her standing there like this, challenging him to start it... Yes, this all felt too familiar for it to be a coincidence! A sharp pain shot through his forehead for a moment, as if the memory had stirred something else as well. And Silim still could not shake the feeling that something made this girl completely different from others... Was it her arcana? No, passive arcana would never be visible to the naked eye. Perhaps continuing to interact with her would make him understand the strange feelings he was having.
    "Very well. En garde!"

Being in deep thought right at the beginning of a fencing match wasn't actually all that smart, though. Her first strike was almost blindingly fast, a silver bolt of lightning striking forth - Silim brought his own rapier up as fast as he could, and while he managed to narrowly avoid the clean hit, he almost dropped his own weapon in the process, taking a half-stumbling step to the side, before readying his own stance again, trying to clear his head of weird thoughts. He wouldn't go down from the very first attack, that would be too embarrassing!
Taking a small step forward and stabbing his rapier forward a bit lower than her, he aimed for her stomach with his blade - he doubted that his move was the optimal one for this situation, but while doing this felt familiar, he didn't exactly remember how the strategy or actual fighting were supposed to go.
