Fennmont is an odd city. There's a permanent fog over the city. But it doesn't hang over the streets. Mostly. There are areas where Fennmont's streets and alleys are hard to see in. The actual city looks like a green-ish grey cloud fell down over the city. No building jut out from there, although there are lights that pierce through occasionally. The city's fog does have one good thing about it. Although it does rain, it never has a single dangerous thunderstorm. The fog just seems to block it out.

Many people don't particularly care for Fennmont. Officially, the fog is harmless. Unofficially, nobody knows anything about it. There are theories of it being a natural occurrence (something they call a "reverse aurora"), a bio-weapon gone wrong, it being a creature or a bunch of tiny creatures, or even a massive spell. The fact that no one has been able to figure it out just bothers many people, so they stay away. But there are those that find the Everdusk City a home.

In general, those are not nice people.

And those not nice people have a couple of enemies in the city. The first is the ever-present Imperial Military Police. They're generally more gung-ho about everything, as you never know what you might find in one of those alleyways. It might be a bum, or it might be something living inside of a bum's body, ready to burst out and eat children. There are no "unarmed" officers of law in Fennmont. It's simply too risky. Then there are vigilantes. They don't work for anyone in particular, but Fennmont does have its own band of eer-do-wells (the opposite of neer-do-wells). They try to fight crime with "justice" on their side. They generally also get killed.

And then, there's Morgan Kincaid. He isn't a hero. He isn't a cop. Morgan is just a semi-normal, one-eyes private investigator. He lives in a townhouse with two adopted kids and a talking skull. He barely makes rent, but he always splurges on the kids before he does himself. They come first, after all. He's the type of guy to go after the crazy stories no one else believes in—the ones the cops turn into a joke at the watercooler while they stuff their bellies full of donuts. Most of the time, they're right. It is a joke. But then there are those times where the client isn't just nutso.

And it seemed this case was one of those. Three nights prior, Morgan was hired by one Klara Gorovich. She had been bitten by a man, and claimed that he had sucked her blood. She was drunk, and the police just laughed her off. They never believed a case of vampirism. Granted, neither did Morgan. But she had an interesting story, and he was a sucker for women in distress. He accepted her case, and it had led him to the corner of 8th and Balring.

Morgan had been following a woman that was acting very suspiciously. Something about her caught his eye, and he began to follow her to see if she was just damn beautiful or if there was something up with her. This was the second store she had been into, and she bought nothing. She just seemed bored, and was almost like she was passing time in there. It was... odd. And she was beautiful. She was slightly taller for a woman, although someone like Morgan stood out like a sore thumb. He was six-foot-six, and he was able to keep up with the white-haired beauty by just looking over the crowded streets. It wasn't that easy to get away from Morgan.

Boooorrreeedooooom. Yes, that was it. There wasn't much for someone like Lilith to do in the city. She had seen it all, done it all, and 'knows' it all. She wasn't some genius; she has just been around a very long time. There wasn't anything that could really surprise her. Not much could catch her off guard. She knew people well, so you couldn't lie to her. If you were doing something sneaky, she more then likely knew it. She just didn't care to stop you. What was the point anyway? Lilith did not like it when people paid too close attention to her. Well, she didn't like it when large numbers of people did. The individual person was fine and sometimes good company, but people as a whole are paranoid, panicky, and stupid. That wasn't something that Lilith Antonovich could have happen around her.

So when this overwhelmingly obvious man decided to tail her for whatever reason, Lilith decided to bore the hell out of him. She hadn't fed since she had been in the city, so she doubted that he was interested in what she was. Apparently walking through the market was enough to catch someone's eye in Fenmont. Lilith began going in and out of stores, looking at a few things, and then buying nothing. She not once gave the man a glance because she knew exactly where he was. There were a few times she lost his location, but the moment people around his height moved away from him, he was easily re-spotted. Store one was a general foods store. She looked around at anything she didn't recognize and left without buying a thing. The next store was a sports store, though Lilith truly wondered how long this place would be in business. She thought about going into a weird occult store, but moved on.

The last store she stepped into was a toy store. She spent the longest time in here, usually watching children begging their parents to buy them something extra. It was so cute! Lilith didn't understand why any 'normal' person would want ot live in this city, but to each their own. After about ten minutes of looking around, she finally left the toy store. When she did, she realized that she completely lost sight of the man that was following her. She glanced around, sensed, and anything else she could think of to find him again, but found nothing. Assuming he had given up on her, since there was no reason to be trailing her in the first place, she shrugged it off and began making her way down the street toward the park. At least there Lilith felt like she could relax. One thing she loved about this city: no sun.

"Why couldn't she have gone into the occult store? It would've made my job so much easier." Morgan muttered to himself as he stood hiding behind a big bin full of those multi-colored rubbery bouncy balls. It towered over him, which was odd, and he was able to easily hide behind it. He had just enough room through the slits in the cage to keep an eye on the beautiful woman.

If asked, his cover story would be that he was trying to pick out the "perfect" ball to replace one his kid had lost. He already had seen the one he would end up getting, so it wouldn't be too much of a problem if a store clerk came around and asked what the creepy tall guy in a coat was doing in a toy store. Thankfully, the woman did leave. But as he turned to follow her, a large black man stood in his way.

The man's nametag read "Viktor." His badge said "SECURITY." Gulp. He arched an eyebrow at Morgan, and asked him, point blank, "Sir, what are you doing in here?" Morgan sighed, trying to keep an eye on the woman nonchalantly. "Uh, my son needs a new ball. He's really, really, really picky about them. I wanted to find one—" Viktor sighed. "Sir, I know that's not what you were doing. You were looking at something, but it wasn't thos—"

Morgan sighed, and dug into his pocked. The security guard unclicked the holster on his pepper spray. Morgan raised a hand, and then pulled out his wallet. Viktor relaxed, and Morgan pulled out his PI license. "On a case, and that woman was a lead. Now if you'll excuse m—" Viktor grabbed Morgan's arm as he tried to leave. Morgan's head spun back, and he stared at the security guard. "Don't bring your cases into this store again, Mister Kincaid." Morgan jerked his arm away and ran after the woman.

She wasn't anywhere to be found. He went in the direction he thought she went into. He didn't see her immediately. It wasn't like he had some sort of tracking spell or some sort of wizard sense to find her. He had two eyes and about a foot over everyone else to help him out. And that's when he saw her enter a park. It was a simple park, a little large. It had a dog park near a playground. And Morgan sprinted after her so he wouldn't lose her again.

He entered through the dog park, and was about to fall into stride when a large black mass lunged out at him, and scared him shitless. He began to run away from the dog as the owner tried to plant his feet down to keep from skiing across the park. Morgan got within a few feet of the lady, and the dog stopped. Morgan sighed, then slipped on something. His balance fell out from under him, and the next thing he knew, he was staring up the skirt of the woman he had been trailing.

He got a decent look of what was under there, but he quickly stood up. He only got the look because he has good eyes. "Uhh... hi." Morgan dug around in his pocket and pulled a small piece of cardstock out. "The name's Morgan Kincaid, ma'am. And I'm a private investigator." And no, I'm not here to investigate your privates. He handed over the business card. "I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind."

The park wasn't a crowded place, but there were enough people around to cause a scene if needed. Lilith wasn't entirely sure she liked the layout of the place either. The sidewalks were to thin, only two people could walk side by side. The water fountains were too far from the children's playground. The bathrooms were closer to the street and away from any of the picnic areas. And the dog park was too close to where the children played. These were all red lights that Lilith noticed as she looked around. Safety of the children should have been the number one concern, but apparently not. The moment a curious three year old grabs the tail of a dog who just so happened to be in a bad mood that day, it'd be all over. Someone who wanted to pick a child up and take them away would use the bathrooms as a way to do so. Lilith just shook her head and sighed at this as she heard something behind her.

"Hm?" she turned her head back to see her stalker laying on the ground and getting a look up her skirt. She raised an eyebrow and stamped on the guys chest a little quicker than one most humans would show. She immediately removed her foot, having only applied enough pressure to knock the wind out of the guy before he got back up. Over time, Lilith's control over her strength had become perfect. She could pass as human quite easily. She kept looking at him like he was an idiot pervert as he spoke to her. When she was handed the card, she even snatched it away from him and glared back to him. "And why the hell are you 'investigating' me?" she asked, putting up hand-signed quotation marks and then placing a fist on her hip, "As I recall, I haven't done shit to anyone and have only been in the city for about a week and a half... You have no business following me around the market, Morgan Kincaid."

Yes, she had caught him following her and she was rather adamant in making sure he understood that. Lilith looked him up and down and was seemingly checking him out. While he spoke, she took in a sniff, though it would be no different than a normal breath to this man. She wrinkled her nose a bit, almost as if it had an itch, but quite straightened up her expression right after. "So what are these so-called questions that you need to ask?" she crossed her arms in front of her chest and tilted her head to the side a bit, "And be quick, if you don't mind; I have places that I need to be."

Morgan oofed as he was stepped on. His black shirt had a nice dusty footprint on it. He stood up after catching his breath. He introduced himself and his business card was snatched from him. He frowned. This was going to be a long day. "Actually, it is my business to follow people around. I was led to that street corner. And then you stood out, frankly." He shrugged and threw his hands into the pockets of his long jacket.

"And you seemed to notice me, but didn't do anything about it. Unless you were acting suspicious in all of those stores just for my sake. In that case, I'm flattered." Morgan smiled a bit and shrugged. "And good, I'm glad we're on the same page. I don't want to waste any more time on this than I have to. I have mouths to feed at home, and the sooner this case is over... Nevermind."

"Let's start off with your name." Morgan pulled out a notepad and a pencil. If she gave it, he'd continue. If not, he would just ask for something to call her. "I wanted to ask if you know one 'Klara Gorovich.'" Morgan studied her closely as he said her name. "I'm looking into an attack on her. She claims it was done by," he focused more on her as he said the next part, "a vampire. She said it wasn't a woman, so I don't think you did it—unless you happen to be the most beautiful man I've ever seen. But I doubt that."

"Did you know that some people would call what you do stalking?" Lilith tilted her head to the side and stared almost eerily at him. Her face was strangely blank. It wasn't dull, no. It was like a doll. It was like a wide-eyed porcelain doll looking directly into your soul. It was like this woman could tell more about him in these few moments than he would care to admit. "Of course I noticed you; Not many are as tall as you are." she said with a shake of her head, "And if the same man with such a distinct look keeps appearing within your vicinity, anyone with a decent amount of awareness would notice." This was not entirely true. He was hiding well and quite stealthy when he was following her. It was her skill that had thrown it off. If it weren't for who and what she was, along with how long she had been alive, he would have gone completely unnoticed. She didn't exactly realize that at the moment.

"Giving out quite a lot of detail about yourself, Morgan." Lilith raised an eyebrow at him. He wasn't lying to her. She would be able to tell if he was, so why was he being so loose with his information? So he had kids, she would take note of that. When he asked her name, he received a blank stare and a couple blinks as reply. When he asked about the woman 'Klara', she just shook her head. "She the one who told you to stalk me?" Lilith asked him. She was only half joking when she was using the word 'stalk'. She wanted to see if she could get under his skin. Lilith, being what she was, liked her privacy, so to have someone following her around was a little more than irritating. Hearing the word 'vampire', Lilith instantly scoffed, "And you took that job? Interesting man." She listened to the rest of what he had to say, but stopped him when she realized he said something she didn't like!

"Wait... So you're following me around when you're supposed to be looking for a man?" she raised an eyebrow and looked offended, "And calling me a beautiful man doesn't say much for me as a woman, ya know." Lilith looked away and puffed out her cheeks in a soft pout. That was really offensive to her, but only because she was intentionally twisting his words. This was fun.

Morgan jutted a finger out at her, his tone a little harsh and accusative. "Hey. Stalkers get some sick satisfaction out of what they do. I just get paid." He slid his hand back to his pocket. He sighed and his tone softened. "And more than half the time, it isn't a woman. I could go on for ages about the balding men I've had to follow around. There was one guy who had a perpetual mustard stain on his tie. No matter the tie, the same stain was there. Never understood how." He shrugged a bit.

The woman spoke in a tone that seemed condescending. "Gee, and I thought my streetlight impersonation was spot-on. I'll have to return my costume to the shop." Morgan was really wanting to get this case over with. Vampires didn't exist. This was probably just some lady who got too kinky with her boyfriend. But he was getting paid, and that's what matters. Beggars can't be choosers. He ignored the comment about stalking her with a heavy sigh. "I can't disclose who my clients might or might not be."

And thankfully, this woman also didn't believe in vampires. Another sane person. Unfortunately, he seemed to have hit a nerve with her. He did take note that she didn't answer him when he asked for her name. "Sorry, ma'am. I don't very well like complimenting women who just stepped on me. It's not my thing." And he shrugged again. "And suspicious people generally know other suspicious people. It's always worth a shot, especially when you're short on leads."

"So Mrs. White," Morgan then looked intently at her,"was it Colonel Mustard? Professor Plum? Reverend Green?" He was basically asking her if she knew anything. He was just trying to get under her skin now.

"Not really... A stalker is just someone who pursues someone who doesn't want to be pursued." Lilith explained with a light shrug of her shoulders, "If we want to talk about the more... primal nature of stalking, your stealthy way of following me around the city relates to animals wandering through the brush, waiting to take down their prey." While she explained this, Lilith brought her hands up and wiggled her fingers in the manner of the claw. Once she said the word 'prey' she pretended to lung at him, but was obviously being playful about it. She didn't even touch him, but that was for her own safety, not his personal space. And as this conversation between them continued, Lilith could only see him as a smart ass. There was a part of her that wanted to smack him, but held back.

"The man who thinks he has the right to follow me around the city without my permission doesn't exactly get the right to be a condescending asshole." Lilith told him rather bluntly as he spewed colored names off toward her. Lilith was completely unaware of the board game "Clue", so the names he spouted at her didn't click. "You're not a cop. You're not a guard. You have no actual authority over me. You're a private investigator... Meaning you take on the jobs that those with authority won't do in hopes of finding some sort of proof... From what I can tell, you don't even respect the title you've given yourself, so don't expect me to. For you, it's all about getting paid, which I can respect for your kids' sake. For the people you stalk, it's their lives being invaded by someone they don't know."

"And Klara Gorovich was attacked by a man acting as a vampire. He's just another fool thinking it's cool to play pretend and he harmed her in the process.  He's done this to multiple women over the passed two weeks, and if Klara, who obviously hired you, reads the paper... she'll know that he died this morning." Lilith pulled a single strand of newspaper from an inner pocket around within the area around her breasts and held it out to him, "It seems repeatedly drinking large quantities of blood from another human can kill a man. Go figure.... Keep that, by the way..." Lilith motioned toward the newspaper, "Use that as proof of his demise and get your money. I'd rather your children not starve because you decided to stalk the pretty man around the street... I think they'd question your sanity."

"Good day, Morgan Kincaid." she said her final farewell and walked off.

"If I were actually trying to be sneaky, you would not have seen me," Morgan defended. If he was trying to be sneaky, he would not have looked out of place at all. He would have gulped down some potion and went invisible or something. He could find a way to blend in. He just didn't want to. Plus, this was all based on legwork. He didn't have a place to raid or somewhere to scout out in particular. He wasn't wasting valuable resources on such a wide area.

"Hey, now. I haven't been condescending. I may look down on you, but that's more of a physical thing." Morgan scowled as she didn't get the reference, then sighed. Again. "Hey, I didn't give myself the title. The government did. And saying I don't respect the title is like saying you don't respect your well-toned body." He rubbed the spot in between his eyebrows as she said "stalk" again.

"Listen, if this is about the whole slipping-and-seeing-your-unmentionables, I'm sorry. When you're running away from a dog that's got a bark that you might mistake for an explosion, you generally don't pay attention to your footing much. So I slipped and saw something I wasn't meant to see. Sorry. It's not my policy to go around and looking up people's skirts or down their pants." He was annoyed, but sincere.

And then she said something that caught his ear. Two weeks. She had only been here a week and a half. And plus, how the hell did she know this man had been doing it for two weeks? There hadn't been any mention of murders in the paper lately. He furrowed his brow and stuck the notebook back in his pocket as he grabbed the newspaper clipping. He scanned it over. Sure enough, a man with a large amount of what looked to be human blood in his stomach was found that morning.

"Hold on a sec." Morgan called out to her as she tried to turn away. His tone was more authoritative. "Past two weeks? You've only been here a week and a half—that's what you said, at least." Morgan was studying her reactions. "Plus, you talk as if you know the guy." He didn't pull the notepad out, but his hand was still in that pocket. "What is your connection to Klara or this Mister Kemmler?"

The first expression Lilith gave was to his comment on him being sneaky. She kept her face slightly dull and full of disbelief. The second expression was toward his comment on her height. She gave him a roll of her eyes and an irritated shake of her head. She wasn't on the average side; this guy was the one that could be labeled village giant. And the government? What sort of government hires a private investigator? If they did, it wouldn't be 'private', now would it? That was when she raised an eyebrow an an accusing manner; he was making himself suspicious to her now, not just the other way around. She used the word stalk to get on his nerves and it worked. He finally had the decency to apologize. Even if he had just fallen, it's extremely inconsiderate to look up a woman's skirt and then not have the decency to say sorry. Too bad he hadn't said it when it actually happened.

"What?" Lilith threw her head back and rolled her eyes in irritation as she turned back toward him, "What now?" He tried calling her out on something she had said and then asked if she had a connection to them. What the living hell? Lilith's eyes narrowed at him. She looked as if she was ready to pounce on her own prey. "You're annoying me, you know?" she told him and crossed her arms again, "Who said I have any connection to either of them? And what does it matter that I've only been here for a week and a half? The paper is the one saying he's being attacking women for two weeks and now he's dead. Did you not read it thoroughly, or are you just trying to get me to stay here?" It was then that Lilith heard the low growl of some sort of animal. She blinked and turned toward a dog who was looking straight at her, pulling their small owner a long. Lilith looked to the young girl.

"I-I'm s-sorry! He's being bad!" the girl said as she tried tugging on the leash of her dog. Lilith just blinked as the dog acted as if it was going to bite her. "No! Bad dog! Stop it!" the girl was on the verge of crying, "You can't attack people; it's not nice! Stop it!" Lilith stared down at the dog in a challenging way. The two kept eye contact, the dog growling and her just staring back at it. After a good thirty seconds, the dog suddenly started whimpering and sat down, laying it's head on it's paws. Lilith leaned down at pat the dog on the head, "That's better." The dog raised it's head and began wagging it's tail, barking in much more friendly way. "Off with you." Lilith said and the dog stood back up, nudging it's young owner and then walking along with her the way a trained animal should. Lilith stood again and looked to Morgan, glancing him up and down, "So are you done with me or not?"

Morgan just stared and exhaled as she called him annoying. It was hard to keep from calling her annoying. She was saying odd things, and avoiding the question. She had caught his eye. She was odd. Something about her, something just... didn't sit right with him. That's why he was intent on seeing what she was up to. Even now, she just seemed unnatural. She seemed wrong.

It was all he could do to keep from growling. Thankfully, something else growled instead. Morgan looked over to see the dog from before growling at the lady. Morgan kept his hand on the hard object in his pocket, in case things got bad. If the dog was to attack someone, he'd stop it. But the woman just stared at the dog. Morgan felt it immediately. It wasn't fear. It was dominance. That woman was saying she was the alpha.

Impressive. The dog quieted down after thirty seconds. As she finished with the dog and senti t along, she looked back at him. "Good job with that dog. I'd hate to have to hurt sparky to get him to not maul someone's face off. But yeah, I'm done with you. Sorry for 'wasting' your time." It was more like 'sorry for wasting my time.' Bah, tourists.

Morgan returned home, as it was getting close to dinnertime. His townhouse had three stories and a basement. The kitchen and laundry were on the first floor, the living room on the second, and the bedrooms and bathrooms on the third. The basement was his lab. It extended about three feet deeper than any other basement on the block thanks to a well underneath. It gave Morgan a great source of fresh water that he didn't pay for. Morgan unlocked the three locks to the house and stepped in...

The moment he walked off, Lilith just smirked. There was a part of her that felt like laughing at him, but the idea of actually smiling just threw her off. Instead, she waited for a few moments. As he walked off, she memorized his scent and then began to follow it. She kept herself on the roofs of buildings or in the trees. She was personally showing off. There wasn't a single part of him that became aware of her presence, but she was sorta cheating. She followed him to his home and watched as he began walking into the house. Lilith jumped from the top of a roof across the street and landed silently behind him. She leaned up against a near by lamp pole and smiled toward him. "And that is how you stalk someone, my friend Morgan Kincaid." Her smile was eerie. It was obviously forced, like the stuck face of a porcelain doll. She was beautiful, but as Morgan had figured out. There was something very off about her. There was something unnaturally supernatural about her very existence.

With arms crossed along her chest, Lilith stepped up toward the house, but off toward the side to peek in through a window. "You have kids, right?"  She acted as if she was hiding from something, sneakily looking over the frame and to the inside to try and get a glimpse of the kids. "Can I meet them?" the question was odd. The tone was off. She almost seemed desperate. She was sincere and there was no hint of her wanting to harm his children. She really only wanted to meet them. "I know it sounds strange... and creepy, but I like kids..." she said, trying to peek through that same windows, but the closed curtains were blocking her view. She began muttering under her breath and in a sad tone, "I can't have any of my own anymore... so the most I can do is babysit or watch from afar..." There was the third option of adoption, but for some reason that never really crossed her mind.

"So... You think it'd be okay?" she asked, her eyes begging for a yes.

The woman speaking was met with a hollow steel cylinder just smaller than her finger. It was a .357 magnum. It was a pretty good way to defend himself. And well, he was pretty good with it. He could have gotten a .44 magnum. But that might just be overkill. He hadn't seen something that required that big of a hole in their head. Yet.

As soon as he recognized the voice, he slid the gun back into his pocket and sighed. "Hey, I have a license to stalk people. Let's see yours." He looked a little jaded. Yeah, she had just followed him home. Yeah, she was undetected while doing so. And alarm bells were telling him to pull that gun back out and pull that trigger all six times. She was not normal.

But he listened to her, and pulled one of the locks back shut. He was going to do his best to keep those kids alive. Yeah, it was weird. But she looked hurt when she said that about not being able to have her own. Dammit. Morgan hated seeing women hurt. And this lady, no matter how wrong she felt, looked hurt. "So weird white-haired lady follows me home, then asks to see my kids."

Morgan sighed, "I think there's a legend about that. And I think the moral of the story is to say 'no.'" He looked serious for a moment, as if he was saying no. "But I like re-tellings. So before I let you into my house, I'm going to need your name. So I'll ask again, what is your name? And if you're some kind of spook that needs it repeated three times, what's your name?"

"I'm not weir-.. Okay, maybe a bit, but not that much." Lilith waved her hands casually in front of her self. Each time she wasn't talking to him, she was peeking through the window, trying to see something inside. She just wanted to see how young his kids were. Did he have two or five? How many boys were there? How many girls? Did they call him Dad or Papa? The reasons behind this were so innocent and depressing that it was hard to handle. The reason was that she would never hear someone call her Mom or Momma, so the closest thing she could get to is seeing other kids happy. It was the way she had been doing it for quite some time now. She didn't know another way.

Hearing him seemingly say no, Lilith's face hardened oddly again. She was upset, but she'd have to deal with it. They were his kids and any decent parent would do what they could to protect them. As he asked her name, she just kept peeking through the windows, her head ducking up and down over and over again. "Lilith... Antonovich..." she said her name slowly because she was concentrating. Realizing that she really needed to stop, she turned her attention back toward Morgan and calmed herself down. "My name is Lilith Antonovich." she said normally before stepping up toward him, "I don't need it repeated three times. Once is just fine, but again, it's Lilith Antonovich."

"And I do apologize for my behavior in the park... Once you said you had children, you were good on my list..." she gave a short nod toward him and her eyes glanced toward his door, "The only way that would change is if I found out you hit them or neglected them in any way... That I would not approve of, but you don't seem like the type, even if you can be big and scary." Her tone was trying to be playful, but she was a woman who obviously had a hard time expressing her feelings. "So... two, three? Boys? Girls? How old are they?" she asked, pulling out a bag of candy she had sneakily bought at the candy store (or did she). "You think they'd like these?" she held them out to him.

Morgan cracked a bit of a smile. "Good, I'd rather not get them involved with my job. And spooks seem to just go hand-in-hand with these weird cases. But hey, I get paid." Morgan shrugged. No, his lifestyle wasn't glamorous. No, he didn't have everything Caroline and Martin needed.

Morgan shook his head, his eyes a little tired."I should've apologized earlier. Long day, and I was just ready for this damn case to be over. Thanks to you, it is." Morgan held up two fingers in response to her question. "Two. One of each. Caroline is eight, Martin is five." He fumbled with the lock again, and turned to the bag of candy. He grimaced a bit, then sighed. "I think they will, but only after dinner. You wouldn't mind joining us for some dinner, would you?"

With a click-clack, the locks opened again. This time, Morgan stepped in. The walls were wood. Polished wood, but wood nonetheless. Not many pictures lined the walls, but all those that did had Morgan and his kids in it. There weren't any of him alone. There were some of the kids alone, but there wasn't anyone else in the pictures. Except for one. Over the mantle of the fireplace on the second floor, there was one picture of an aged couple. Morgan called out into the barely-lit halls, "Caroline, Martin. I'm home."
    Silence.

For two second, there was no sound. Morgan's hand began to move towards his pocket. This wasn't normal. Well, wasn't normal until he heard the ever-quickening thud thud thud thud thudthudthudthudthudthudthud of small feet running down the stairs. "Morgan! Welcome home!" A young girl's voice rang out from the stairs as a black-haired blur rounded around the corner and tackled Morgan.

Morgan staggered and patted the head of the young girl that clung to him. A creak and the sound of a cane tapping against wood also fell from the stairs. An elderly woman, who was almost seventy, stepped down, a warm smile across her face. "Welcome home, Mister Kincaid." A young boy, brown hair and brown eyes helped the woman down. "Thank you for watching them again, Mrs. Korovich. I hope they weren't too much trouble."

Anya Korovich's wrinkles tightened into a smile. "Oh, they are never a problem. They remind me of my children when they were younger." The elderly woman's spectacles fell on Lilith. "Oh ho ho... You've brought a lady friend with you. I hope this doesn't mean I'll be out of a job." She had a wide smile and stepped closer. Morgan's face flashed red in embarrassment. He cleared his throat. "Mrs. Korovich, Martin, Caroline, this is Lilith." He didn't call her by her last name. There was no way those two kids would be able to pronounce that. "She said she'd like to meet you."

"Lileth... Leleth.. Lil.. Lily! I'm gonna call you Lily." Morgan snickered a bit, and turned to Lilith before she could argue with the young girl still clinging to his side. "You going to argue with that cute face?" He beckoned for Martin to come over. "" Martin looked up at Mrs. Korovich, who nodded and pushed him slightly. The little boy slowly walked up to Lilith. Meanwhile, Mrs. Korovich walked back into the kitchen. "I'll get dinner started. Are you allergic to anything, Miss Lilith?"

Martin finally made his way up to Lilith and stood about three feet from her before saying anything. "H-h-h-ello..." He swallowed, then took a step closer to extend his hand for a handshake. Just like Martin taught him. "So, Lily," he spoke, patting Caroline on the head, "what the hel—heck brings you to Fennmont? It's not exactly a tourist attraction."

The mental squee was strong with this one. As they stepped into the house, Lilith looked around. She noted the pictures on the wall, wondering where the children's mother was. As she looked around, the rapid thudding of small feet on the floor met her ear and she looked to see a small young woman tackle Morgan. Luckily, the man did not fall down, but if he had, Lilith already had a hand about an inch from his back to prevent that. "Squee. So cute, so cute, so cute. Little and cute!" Lilith's mind rambled on about the small girl that Morgan greeted. A moment later, an elderly woman made her appearance and that only made Lilith smile more. Morgan really must have been a family man. For a moment, Lilith wondered if this woman was his mother, but that question was soon answered.

"Hm?" Lilith smirked slightly at the elderly woman's comment and looked toward Morgan. She noticed his blush and wanted to badly to mess with him, but decided not to in front of the children. Lilith was introduced and the first little cutie that spoke to her was the young girl. For the first time since she had began interacting with Morgan, a faint and gentle smile moved onto her face. When Lilith smiled her mouth was closed. When she talked, it was through closed lips. Even though Morgan snickered at it, Lilith was completely okay with being given a nickname. "That's absolutely impossible!" Lilith said cheerfully toward Morgan when it came to the nickname she had been given. "That's a beautiful choice of name; I love it." Lilith said as she knelt down in front of Caroline, "Nice to meet you."

"Uh..." Lilith blinked a few times and remembered that she had actually been invited for dinner. She hadn't originally given an answer because her mind was only on meeting the kids, but realized that she'd likely have to eat. "I'm not allergic to anything, but I did eat just a few hours ago..." Lilith rubbed the back of her head, "I wasn't entirely expecting to be invited somewhere for dinner, I apologize." With that said and done, Lilith noticed another little one near her and looked down to see Martin. He was even younger and just as cute, if not cuter. Look at those chubby cheeks! "Squuueeee!!" Lilith knelt down next to Martin and took his hand, gently shaking it. "Hello Martin. It's nice to meet you and you." Lilith was asked a question that she would have to quickly come up with an answer to.

"Well..." she stood up fully again and looked back toward Morgan, "I was in Arcadia a few weeks ago. I was staying with an acquaintance, but..." It was at that moment that Lilith had a plan. She didn't want to leave Fennmont just yet and now had two kids to play with. If she had to go, it would be later, so an entire scenerio fluttered through her mind. "... she passed. She was an elderly woman and when she went, her family got the house and everything in it. They didn't much like me... Well, the wife didn't..." For reasons that should have been obvious to an adult like Morgan, "... so they asked me to leave. Since then, I've just been traveling. I don't have any family or many friends that could help me out, so I've been looking for a job and some place to live. This city may not be a tourist attraction, but from what I understand, the job market isn't that bad... I guess I'm just hoping to get on my feet."

    Enter Sob Story.

Morgan and Caroline both liked that Lilith didn't argue with it. Morgan would have an amazing time calling her that, and Caroline didn't have to worry about pronouncing Lilith's name. Dear Aldir, Morgan didn't want to think about them butchering Lilith's last name. Morgan watched Liltih look and shake Martin's hand. Morgan reached over and gave Martin a pat on the head of approval, then a bit of a thumb's up.

And then Lilith gave her sob story. Morgan hated sob stories. Especially when they were just believable. Yeah, it was standard fare for someone to come in complaining about how they got kicked out by a lover or something. But the fact she said Fennmont had a strong job market was what caught his ear. It wasn't that well-known that Fennmont did have a shortage of workers. The government kept the population data hush-hush. She had looked around for somewhere to go, and she had looked hard.

Morgan sighed, then pointed up. "Top floor, third room on the right." Morgan looked at her intently. "You can shack up there for a week or two. But it won't be entirely free. You won't have to pay anything, just help out around here. I know it's hard for Mrs Korovsky go up and down the stairs, and you can take the kids to the park or something. Mrs. Korovsky—bless her heart—can't." Morgan glanced back to the kitchen. Anya Korovsky was a great old woman, but that's just it. She's an old woman.

"Help her out with heavier lifting when I'm not around. If it's still too heavy, and you can't get a hold of me and it needs to be done, I'll tell Mister Jurgens next door that you're staying with me. He's a bit of a hardass, but he's got muscles that can break steel." Morgan pointed to a large oak door beside the stairs. There was a steel bar folded over it, and a deadbolt too. It looked more like it was meant to keep things in rather than out. It also looked thick and perhaps even air-tight.

"Basement is completely off-limits. If you hear something down there, just lock the deadbolt and the bar and get in touch with me ASAP." Morgan looked back to Lilith. "Can you accept those terms, Lily?" There were two stars that almost sparkled in Lilith's eyes the moment he gave her directions to a room. It was surprising that he accepted it so well. He was a trusting man, which she liked. It only meant that she couldn't break his trust. She took careful note of the instructions and rules he have given, though that basement interested her quite a lot. What the hell was down there? Looking from the basement and to Morgan, she blinked once before nodding. "Yeah... I think I can accept those terms, Morgan Kincaid." The old woman smiled from the kitchen, and she began humming a chipper tune.
