Personality: The Mom of the Year award would not be given to Sofia Laskou now. But back when her daughter, Lilia, was young, there was no better person for the award. Sofia is currently quite the workaholic. She has a comfortable house in Herakletia, where she and her daughter live. Mostly, Lilia lives there. Sofia has a problem of staying at work too much. She is one of the members of the Mageías Council. As a Councilmage, she writes, reviews, and oversees the enforcement of Salan law. The Helia might oversee the execution of the laws, but the Mageías Council makes sure that people are arrested and get their day in court. And as one of the five members of the Mageías Council, Sofia is quite overworked. With tensions with Zakat getting tighter, Sofia is having to constantly see if a simple troop movement or caravan is an attempt to sabotage Salaneos.

But Sofia is a loving mother. Despite her overworking herself and being absent nowadays, Sofia is a loving mother. She has never forgotten her daughter's birthday. She always sends someone in her stead if she can't make an event her daughter is in. When she is off of work, she always spends it with Lilia. But nothing changes the fact, nor does it make up for, that Sofia is mostly away now. Lilia is getting to be an adult, and Sofia is trying to give Lilia more freedom than she had. This is also a convenient excuse to be at work more than she probably needs to be.

Character Background: The Laskou family is old blood in Salaneos. It's one of those families that always produced an Arcanist. It has also produced three members of the Mageías Council including Sofia. However, it became a dwindling light in recent years. A string of single heirs and secondary heirs dying young put the family line in an irreversible spiral. Currently, the only people that have a decent connection to the Laskou family is Sofia and her daughter, Lilia. And so now, let's tell their story.

Sofia's father was the one who could trace his ancestry back to the Laskou. Christophe Laskou was perhaps one of the most pompous, strict, and downright mean men in Sythrae. He was a despicable businessman who care madly about his bloodline and profits. His wife left him when Sofia was young, and he didn't let her take Sofia. Sofia was instead forced to learn how to manage her Arcana and how to be a shrewd merchant. And Sofia hated it. She didn't get to play outside with the other kids. She was stuck inside, training and studying. Which is why sending her to an academy in Ideum was perhaps the worst idea Christophe had come up with.

For the last four years of her schooling, Sofia was sent to Ghurla School of Ministry. It was a law school, as Sofia had chosen to pursue a career as a Dikast—a lawyer in Salaneos. It was a great excuse so she could get out and "perfect the art of speaking to a hostile or combative witness." Or in plain speech, have a social life. And Sofia made quite a few bad choices when she had her freedom. She had piercings in places the sun doesn't shine (except on one beach in Salaneos). Those piercings have long-since closed up though. She also has a tattoo above her ass of a heart. Needless to say, only a handful of people have seen it. One of those men was Galen Carras.

Galen was a smooth-talking bad boy who had been sent to the school to try to make him a better man. It wasn't working. Sofia and Galen dated for about two weeks before they had sex. And within a month of that, Sofia found out she was pregnant. Galen fled the school when he learned (Sofia didn't try to contact him) and she was forced to go home. After a very, very strict reprimanding by her father, Sofia declared that she'd go back to school after the baby was born. And so nine months later, Sofia had Lilia. Sofia was given a monthly stipend to cover diapers and other necessities from her father, but for the most part, Sofia made ends meet on her own.

Sofia finished school with her former classmates by focusing hard on her studies and doubling up on classes. The moment she was done with school though, therein lied a problem. She could not be a Dikast and raise a child. And like hell was anyone else raising Lilia. Sofia moved to Herakletia after her father died and left her his estate. She sold his house in Sythrae and bought a house in the capital. There, she became an aide in the Mageías Tower. She worked her way up over the years to eventually become a secretary to the previous holder of her seat, Dulan Aeonis. There, she was noticed as an Arcanist. After Dulan's retirement, Sofia was the first person offered the position. She accepted.
Magic

Type: Arcanist
Description: Sofia is an expert in written magic. This usually takes the forms of large-scale, complex magical circles. Unfortunately, those take time to work. She can erect a strong anti-Arcana barrier, for example, but that could take days to set up. She further has specialized in alteration magic. This could be changing lead into gold (which is illegal in Salan, but she can do it), reinforcing a building, or even preserving food to last longer. Her combat magic is limited to only a few quick-burst spells. She fire off simple balls of Arcana or any of the four cardinal elements (earth, fire, water, and air) without preparation. Anything more would require her to do a circle.

Combat

Equipment: Sofia's main equipment is a robe that has been enchanted to stay dry, clean, and weather-adaptive (it will become warm in cold weather, cool in warm weather, etc.) and a staff that denotes her status as a member of the Mageías Council. It is crafted from Aeon Steel, allowing it to act as a conduit for Arcana.
Skills: Sofia is a master at all things a mother needs to be good at. Cleaning, cooking, changing diapers, talking a kid through puberty, reading aloud, removing stains, etc. She has learned how to do it all from experience. She is also capable of falling asleep even on a ship in a storm. Sofia is not good at fighting, but she does have immense control over her Arcana.
