Personality: Lanai is a woman with a soft heart. It's not that she's kind, but mostly weak willed, sweet, and too generous. She trusts easily and often gives too much of herself out for the sake of everyone else. She doesn't know how to stick up for herself. She's never had any real support from her family and her friends always seem to tear her down. After her situation with the writing agent, Lanai's self-confidence has completely tanked. She's gotten to the point where she thinks nothing good about herself and mentally talks down to herself just about every moment of the day.

Lanai walks around trying to act as normal as she can. She doesn't allow her true emotions to come out very often, which is why most of her self-hate stays inside. People know Lanai as the sweet girl that walks through the market place with a smile on her face. She's the one that runs to help people pick up the fruit they drop or volunteers to watch the kids for a stranger while their Mom tries on new clothes. Lanai likes to be helpful and she's a people person. Being around people is, surprisingly, one of the things that keeps her getting up the next day. Otherwise, she's a little bit of a wreck.

Character Background:

When Lanai first came to Aria, she wanted to publish a book she had written. It was her dream and she used all of her money to get there. She worked on it for a year before feeling confident enough to leave her home to go for her dream. Her friends tried to talk her out of it, but she didn't listen. When she arrived and the agent read her manuscript quickly shot her down. Her world was torn in two. She was told that her writing was dull and lacked any sense of real life experience. Heartbroken, ashamed, and broke, Lanai stayed in Aria to try and get some money to move back home. She had used every ounce of her money to get to Aria in the first place and because of that was stuck.

Lanai found a job as a main in some old man's house. The man was rather wealthy and had a son, Nickolas, who came by every now and then. Though his son was eight years older than Lanai, she found him extremely attractive. She tried avoiding him because of her job and she did not feel worthy as a maid, but she had caught his eye as well. When her boss fell ill, his son stayed with them for some time to help get things in order. After six months, her boss died and left a decent amount of money to her and the rest of his fortune - and the house - went to his son. After the funeral, Lanai went to visit Nickolas in what was now his office and the two got to talking. Lanai was asked out.

Lanai and Nick became close and he really seemed to care for her. Her desire to return home faded and she stayed with him. Nickolas was a strange man. He was kind, gentle, and passionate when he wanted to be. However, he was also a little secretive with his family history and wasn't exactly a talker normally. He seemed to prefer listening to her and her stories, which bothered her because she thought she was boring. She opened herself up to him and told him anything he wanted to know about her. She wanted him to open up to her, but the more she pushed, the more he pulled away from her. And one day, he came home a little later than normal, but when he did, things were off...
