"Such is my luck, I suppose." It had been such a beautiful day. And I mean such a beautiful day earlier. A light breeze, sunlight that wasn't too bright, and a steady temperature. The carriages Alain had been leading the convoy of had all the windows open. While traveling near a small village right outside of his homeland's border, a wheel on the supply carriage snapped. It wasn't something that could be repaired, and the spare was nowhere to be seen. The woodsmith in the village would be back the following day, so Alain, the leader of this expedition, decided to set up camp until the next day. A small inn was offered to house them, which he graciously accepted. But it was so nice of a day, and Alain did not want to spend it inside, waiting. Instead, he decided to take a walk. Well, not without calling his superiors and the dig team and informing them they'd be a day later than originally expected.

The start had him going through the village. Not many buildings were here, especially compared to Colburn. But it was a nice little village. Windows were open, bread and pies were baking, and it just felt like a quaint, homely place. Children ran and played through the streets, their mothers occasionally looking out from a window or doorframe. He could see men straining as they hauled lumber, metal, and stones. A new building might be coming up, as he heard bits and pieces of their conversations. Tidbits of a joke about Regus's hammer hitting someone, chatter about how the design looked sturdy, and even parts about how one man's wife gave birth the day before all filled the air as the line passed. This was the life in a small town.

The man in blue left the village to see the outlying area. He wasn't afraid of anything that would come out of the forest, as he was armed... and he wasn't slow either. He followed a fallen stone fence, simply wandering. He felt he could find his way back. It was so clear, there was nothing obstructing his view or path. Ah, but then Alain felt something hit his nose. Cold. It moved slightly. He then realized... water. He looked up and saw it. A dark cloud moving exceptionally fast. He sighed as he felt another hit upon his face. And another. And another. And before long, he could not count them. He saw a large tree up ahead, which was closer than the village which he could no longer see in the distance. Instead of going over terrain he had no idea about in hopes of getting to a warm shelter... he'd take what path he could see and head for that tree.

Alain could still see through his glasses as no water drops appeared on them. He could see that tree. He was making quick strides toward it. He could only think of those children, who were probably be hurried inside by their mothers. He could only think of those men, whose work probably would not stop even in this weather. Those windows were being slammed shut and the sweet aroma disappearing. Only to be replaced by the sound of rain rapping upon wood and stone. But for Alain, no such noises were in his ears. Only the roar of rain hitting grass could be heard. It was a beautiful sound, even if the outlook on it was bleak. Reaching the tree, he sighed. He spoke of his luck, somewhat cursing it. His clothes, especially his blue military-style overcoat, were now everything but dry. He hoped that the rain would subside soon...

The day was nice, the air clear and breezy. It was even felt through the thickness of the forest. The forest was calm, quiet, and undisturbed by man's progressive instinct. The forest was home to many creatures and a single human. Less than a mile away from a village was a small cottage. It was a cute little thing made of stone and wood, like out of a fairy tail. To the side was a small garden, well tended and beautifully grown. On a small patio, also made of wood, was a table with two chairs, one looking more worn than the other. The shutters of the cottage were open, letting in the light. And inside this cute little cottage was a young woman who lived alone. She was beautiful, kind, and loved by most who meet her. Her name was Serenity, Serenity Verdant. This name wasn't exactly common and was easily recognized. Serenity was one of the most, if not the most, famous sorcerers of her time. It's why she decided to live out here. It was peaceful, it was private, and she could live her own life.

Serenity made her way to the front door, ready to take advantage of the beautiful day and walked out of her little home. Barefoot, like she usually was when around her home, Serenity began a familiar stroll through the forest. About a hundred yards away, she found a place that she visited many times before. It was a little private lake. It was only about ten foot deep, the water was always nice and cool, and it was hers. This was her land after all. Serenity reached up to her shoulders and suddenly froze. She felt something hit the top of her head and reached up; it was wet. She felt another and another. Looking up, she stared into the darkened cloud above her and watched as the rain began pouring down. You'd think that she'd turn away, but she did not. She only smiled and stood there, allowing the rain to soak her hair and clothing. She stepped into the lake and did as she usually did and she began slowly swimming around, enjoying the feel of the water moving along her body.

Serenity's verdant colored hair just flowed along with her, following her as she swam around the water. There was something about the water that made her feel so free, like she was floating. Feeling the need to just relax, Serenity swam her way back over to the side of the lake and sat on a submerged rock. Leaning back to lay facing upwards, she looked up to the sky. She used her arms to spread her hair out, pushing it outward away from her head. Her white, priestess-like outfit outlined to the contours of her body, clinging to it's shape. Serenity just laid there quietly, closed her eyes, and began her relaxing. This was exactly how she liked it. No one was bothering her, she could do what she wanted to do without a camera being shoved in her face. This life was wonderful for her, except she did get lonely sometimes. “Maybe I'll head into the village a little later...” she thought, feeling herself fading slightly. The relaxation was getting to her. If she wanted, she could fall asleep right here.

Alain had no idea how long he had been sitting under that tree. Occasionally, a stray drop would meet the one-in-ten-million odds and miss every leaf, falling onto the already-soaked Arcanologist. He heard two geese honk, their shrill voice piercing the roar of the rain. He could not see them, but they did seem close and getting closer. He took off the now-heavy coat, revealing to him his fears were right. The rain had soaked even to his undershirt. He sighed, hanging the coat and saber on a low-hanging but thick branch.

Another shrill honk from a goose caught his attention as he looked up, noticing the rain was finally dying down. Of course, it wasn't stopping. But he could now see in front of him enough to see that there was a body of water in front of him. Small breaks in the clouds let in sunlight, reflecting on the rippling water. He imagined how beautiful the water was on a normal day... He imagined it would be like a mirror, reflecting everything it could ever possibly see. But today, nothing was being reflected. No, the only thing on the water's surface today was something which caught his eye.

It wasn't a love-at-first-sight type of catch. It wasn't something grotesque you couldn't help but to look at. It was something so out of place yet looked so natural. It was like a light bulb. You see it. It is normal to see it. Even out of its natural habitat, it's there and looks natural. But you can't help but not to look at it. Every time you pass it, you have to see it even if nothing changes. That is what was floating on the surface seemed like. To put it into shape, it looked like a doll almost. It was not surreal, yet it didn't seem real. It almost looked like a work of art. But no, this was a living, human being.

And she just was free atop the water. Nothing but closed eyes, a strand of hair or two, and a soft smile was upon her face. Her body did not move, but she did not seem dead. She simply seemed too... calm to be dead. And Alain could not help but to stare at her. It was as if he were expecting something. But... nothing was going to happen. No, the entire air was too calm for something to happen. He took a step forward, almost as if to say something. But he did not speak. He wanted this calm air to last.

The rain began to settle down a bit. Quick beams of sunlight shined down onto the tops of the trees, sending hundreds of smaller beams radiating down onto the lake and to Serenity. The warmth of the sun comforted her. She took in a slow long breath and slowly let it out. She was so at home, so comfortable, that she had not noticed someone getting closer to her. Even when she opened her eyes, Serenity looked up through one of the openings of the trees to see that the sky was slowly brightening up, though the rain continued to sprinkle it's way on down. She laid her arms crossed along her stomach and lifted a leg from the river, causing her skirt to fall down toward her waist. Right as she thought to sit up, a small blue colored bird flew in and landed on the top of her foot. She giggled a bit, feeling a little tickle, and then stared curiously at it for a few moments.

“Well hey there...” she said sweetly to it, her voice as gentle as the breeze that moved through the trees, followed by another giggle. The little bird hopped once and let out a little chirp, it's head turning toward the man standing not too far from her, but Serenity took no real note of it. It's not like she could read it's mind. A moment later, the little bird flew away, in the opposite direction that it had looked and she lowered her leg back into the water to site up.. Serenity watched the little bird land in a tree on the other side of the lake and smiled. So horribly unaware of her surroundings, she went right back into the water and lowered herself until her head was the only part of her outside of the water. She made her way across the lake and walked out the other side. Her bare feet made contact with the cold grass and she stepped up to the tree, holding her hand out to see if the bird would come back. Of course it didn't. Instead, it flew away again and she dropped her arm back down to her side. She shrugged it off and turned back toward the water, ready to walk right back in, but something caught the corner of her eye.

Serenity looked up and saw a unfamiliar man just standing there. She stared at him, keeping silent. Most people would assume she'd yell, insult him by calling him a pervert for watching her, but no. Serenity wasn't that type of person. Instead, she glanced him up and down and then looked back to his face. "You're soaked..." she spoke up in a gentle and genuinely concerned voice. She pulled her foot out of the lake, walking around toward him, lifting her skirt a bit to make sure it didn't trip her up. "Did you get caught in the rain? The weather around here can be a little unpredictable at times, especially this time of year. Come on... My house is just a short walk in that direction..." she pointed toward a small path that she had created naturally from walking this way so many times, "We'll get you dried off and something warm to drink." He could deny her help of course, but she didn't think he would. Because of that, she turned toward her home and began leading him down the path.

Alain looking at her was like him staring at one of the many pieces of art hanging inside Rydian. She seemed so... in place here. Well, she did look rather dashing in the water, but that's not what he meant. In fact, he hadn't even thought about her like that. Most people were going to run in when it rained, but she seemed like she'd rather just stay in it. It was definitely odd, and his interest in why was piqued. When her leg lifted more out of the water, it looked so soft. The water fell off it like it was clinging for dear life, like it didn't want to let go of her. Alain watched the bird as it looked in his direction. He wanted to know what that bird was thinking... why it trusted her so much. If only because he wanted to know why he was starting to feel that very same way.

And when she stood up out of the still-rippling lake, he could see more of her figure. One of his first thoughts is that he thought she was taller than she actually was. He didn't even know why he was looking at her so much. She just... seemed to draw him to her. No, that's not exactly right. It was like she was drawing anything to her. He had forgotten about the expedition because of it. She seemed to make a bell ring in his mind. The sound it made was soft, but sharp. He could not place the exact sound... but it was not a bad sound. All he could make out is that he should know who she is...

She then noticed him. He took a step backwards, thinking she'd yell at him for staring at her. The last thing he needed was another village thinking he's lecherous. But at the same time, he just couldn't run. It was if there was a wall cast by that blue bird behind him. He wanted to blame that little bird for everything, but he knew he was at fault. He would apologize once sh— "You're soaked..." He blinked at that. She didn't scream at him for being there. She didn't hurl something at him. Instead, she seemed concerned. Truly concerned at that! His mouth lowered (but did not open) and eyes widened in sheer wonder. Why? He thought. Maybe she was a lady of the night who didn't care... No, who was he kidding. She seemed too...
    White.
In his mind, a lily began to bloom.
    Sheer white.
    Yes...
Nothing but a blanket of white.
She seemed too pure to be someone like that. Not pure as in pure of heart or as in a virgin... no. It was not a single "pure" about her. She simply felt like the word "pure" came from her name. Someone whose life, whose body, whose mind, whose soul, whose entire mortal construct was that of "pure." Truly, she was someone of a different dimension than Alain could ever hope to be on. If she were white, then he would be grey.

    He was not pure.
    He was pure.
    He was not just.
    He was just.
    He could only harm.
    He could only save.

He was to many a bad person,
    To many a savior,
    To many a demon,
    To many an angel,
To many a pike covered in blood,
To many a shield covered in scars...

"Did you get caught in the rain? The weather around here can be a little unpredictable at times, especially this time of year. Come on... My house is just a short walk in that direction..." Her voice was almost as pure and soft as she seemd to be. And it felt like his mind would not let him say no to it. Something about her... it was as if she were commanding his body, but of course she wasn't. Maybe it was because he could see even more of how pure and purely beautiful she looked as she walked closer to him. "We'll get you dried off and something warm to drink." He could not accept this offer. He would not accept it. "Unfortunately so. I'd much rather it have been a flash snow storm than a flash rain like this."

His voice was not like hers. It was not soft. It was deep, almost rough to the ear. But not so coarse as to cause pain. It was like the worn edge of a cardboard box. Smooth enough to where movement is not a problem, yet still rough enough to never feel the same way twice. "I'd hate to be one that would impose... but I can also say I don't very well like being this wet." he turned slightly, not letting her fully out of his sight. Taking his coat and sabre, he turned back towards her, his white shirt not looking much unlike hers. His face pinkened slightly as she came even closer, where he could see the difference of a male body and that of a female so much more clearly. Had this been someone dear to him, he would not be as red. But this was someone whom had spoken only two sentences to without ever even getting her name.

In the Blue Season [CLOSED] Serenity2_zps4b943f53

Serenity's mind was always on the well-being of others. Seeing someone soaking wet, she's likely to think of them catching a cold and getting sick. This is why she immediately invited him to her home, something many would not do. “Oh, is that so? Do you enjoy the snow?” she asked courteously after his comment, "And no, you're not going to impose." She stepped off the side of the path, pushing a branch that she usually walked right under, but he could not, over to the side so he didn't have to bend down to pass. Once he did, she'd gently put it back into place, not just letting it go for it to flick it's way back into position. Pulling her skirt up a bit, revealing her bare feet, she hurried along the path and over a small hill. Right at the bottom was her little cottage. It looked like something someone like her would live in, all cute and tidy. She walked down a stone path and up toward the front door. “Let me get you a couple towels to dry and a blanket.” she said as she stepped into the house and left the door open for him to come in, “You can wrap yourself in it while your clothes dry, okay? No sense in getting a cold.”

Serenity hurried off toward the other room, her feet tapping quickly along the ground as she did. She made her way into her room and brushed her hair back really quick, just to straighten it out. She then grabbed a few towels out of the cabinet and brought them out to him. “Here. The bathroom is right there.” she motioned over to it as she handed him three medium sized towels, “I-If you don't mind, get out of those wet clothes and dry off with these. I'll bring the blanket t-to y-you once I get out of these.” It was obvious she had become a little cold. The outside breeze and moving around had cooled her down enough to cause her to shiver and her teeth to chatter a little. Once he took the towels, she scuttled along to her room again, actually walking on her tip-toes, as if she were wearing heels. She softly closed the door behind her, smiling kindly to him before it fully shut, and then went to change into something more warm than this. It had been such a beautiful day, too bad. She took her wet clothes off and hung them over the edge of her bed, placing another towel below them to prevent any water from dripping onto the wooden floors. Once she dried herself with a few towels, squeezing water from her hair and patting herself down, she went and grabbed some warmer clothes.

Once she hurried into her clothes and was dressed, she walked toward another cabinet and pulled out a large fluffy blanket that she couldn't help but rub her cheek into. It was so soft, she loved it. She made her way back out and glanced around to see if he had gone in. Assuming that he did, she walked up to the bathroom door and knocked lightly on it. “I've got the blanket for you. I'm sorry, but I don't exactly have any clothes for a man.” she said apologetically. She waited for him to open the door and then kept her eyes away, holding the blanket out toward him. “If you want, hand me your clothes so I can get those dried for ya. Anything special that needs to be done with them? I know some people like some things air dried over machine...” she waited for the clothes to be handed to her and then gave a cute and quick curtsy to him. She hurried off and did what she needed to do, whether putting his clothes in the dryer or hanging them up to dry. She'd even check the pockets to make sure that any of his belongings weren't in there to get ruined and then place them in a small basket she had over the dryer on a small shelf. Making her way back into the living area, she sat down on the only couch that she had, curled her knees up, and began staring out the window, waiting for him to come out of the bathroom.

Alain followed her closely. He had no idea when the rain would start to roar again, so he'd rather not be in a position to lose sight of her. He didn't need for her to push that branch aside. It's not like he wasn't capable of dodging it. But he wouldn't comment on it. She was being... exceptionally nice, so there was no need to sound rude, especially since he would not be imposing. "That's a relief. And as a matter of fact, I do. How you seemed to enjoy the rain is how I enjoy the snow. Although, I doubt I want to be lying in a lake when it starts to."

Compared to what Alain lived in, this house was a little small. But he didn't expect for most people to have his father's old paycheck. His parents had moved into a retirement home upon Alain's graduation, leaving him with their old house. He kept it up himself, but it was still a house built for a family and not a bachelor. But this house was clean. In his mind, it was too clean. Not like she was hiding something, no. But... he shrugged it off. He didn't want to stand in the door too long, so she shut it behind him, ducking to avoid hitting his head on the door's frame.

Alain didn't want to point out the fact that people don't get colds from just getting wet and being cold and accepted her offer for the towels. He grabbed them, noticing how just soft they were. There was no other word to describe them other than soft. Well, that and small for him. He almost jokingly asked Do you have anything slightly larger? But decided against it. "It sounds like you should be the one to hurry out of wet clothes—you seem far more cold than I am." Alain didn't know why he had made that kind of a joke, but he did. She was but a stranger and the comments may be taken wrong, but she did seem to be cold. He stepped inside the bathroom, sliding out of his wet shirt after placing the jacket and sabre on the counter.

Alain was not necessarily muscular. He didn't have bulging muscles like some bodybuilder or former governor of a far away place. But that didn't mean he wasn't in shape. Most of his muscles were on his upper arm, and they weren't the type that would need to bulge out. He was skilled with a sabre, not with a seven-tonne bat, so it wasn't sheer lifting power. As he slid out of his equally-soaked pants, he realized he may have to remove his underwear as well. His upper legs were equally as toned as his upper arms. But he soon realized another fear... he would have to dry them. Sliding them off—which were, of course, blue—he only wrung them out over the sink, running water afterwards to make sure there wasn't any water from there left. He slid them back on, no matter how cold they were. Unfortunately for any lady who would want to see his trusty magnum, he was not going commando inside someone else's house.

The Arcanologist dried himself off with one of the towels, sliding his glasses off as he did so. They were just for show and didn't even have true lenses. Actually, they were partly a product of his powers, he created a faux-lens for each side that would make sure nothing got onto or through the 'lens.' He put them back on after drying (and quickly hand-brushing) his hair. He tied the other two towels together around his waist. Normally, he'd really just need one. But he decided to so where they reached further down on his body. This was a stranger's house... he frankly didn't want her to see something she didn't want to see. He folded the wet clothes and slung the sabre over his shoulder. Putting them all in a pile, he grabbed them and half-exited the bathroom, as if upon her request.

"I'd be more surprised if you had something in my size anyway. Most people don't turn out to be as tall as I am." He traded the pile of clothes for the blanket. "Neither is a preference, although the jacket can't be machine-dried." Not that air-drying it would really matter right now, the rain was still falling even if just lightly. He threw the blanket over him like a cloak one would wear in the desert. He lightly tied the right side so he could still move around some and use his right arm. He exited the bathroom speaking. "I feel bad for not introducing myself and then accepting your hospitality." He slid the sabre off of his shoulder, hanging it on the door knob. "My name is Alain Maldoc-Ryence, a professor at Rydian Academy." He had no idea what to expect from her name...

In the Blue Season [CLOSED] Serenity2_zps4b943f53

Serenity had lived out here long enough to be prepared for rainy days and air drying clothes. She air dried most of hers after all. She had a little pole from one end of her laundry room to the other. She put his jacket on a hanger and buttoned up the front. Hanging that up, she put the rest of the stuff in the drier. Hopefully they'd get done soon enough for him to be fully dressed in his own clothing and not her favorite blanket! She giggled at the thought, turning the drier on, and then turned on a fan. Yeah, it was raining outside, but the fan circulating the air in the room would cause the jacket to dry a bit quicker. “And done!” she said cheerfully and tip-toed into the other room to sit. It wasn't long after her rear met couch that he exited the bathroom. Hearing the door click, she blinked once and looked over to see him come around the corner. “Well don't you look dashing.” she said smiling, slightly teasing but also quite serious about it. She wouldn't give false compliments.

"I feel bad for not introducing myself and then accepting your hospitality." he said, catching her slightly off guard. She watched his sword set on the door knob and then looked back up to him. It was just now that she was noticing how tall he was. She felt so tiny. "My name is Alain Maldoc-Ryence, a professor at Rydian Academy." he said, introducing himself. “A strong name and you work at the Academy? How's it treating you?” she said, holding her hand out to shake, “Oh, and I'm Serenity Verdant. I don't exactly have a job, but it's nice to meet you anyway. I forgot to make some tea, oops. Did you want any?” Serenity stood up and made her way toward the kitchen, which was not too far from them and open concept, so she didn't disappear behind any walls. She put some water in a kettle and set it on the stove, lighting it up. She pulled out her own cup, and his if he said he wanted some, and set them down on the counter. Getting a few tea leaves, she began grinding them up.

"Well don't you look dashing." Alain couldn't help but to accept that. He knows he looks good, oh does he know it. But he's not so vain as to flaunt it. Instead, he was incredibly humble about it. "I thank you for that compliment. Many of my students would be incredibly jealous of you seeing me like this." He joked... or at least he wished he were joking. Many of his students probably would be jealous of her for seeing him just shirtless. Now, one or two probably were setting up voodoo dolls of this emerald woman.

"A strong name and you work at the Academy? How's it treating you?" He shook her hand with a firm, yet not hurting, grip. Her skin seemed just as soft as the thought it'd be on the back of her hand. But her palms were slightly rougher. "Pay is good, hours are horrible, and you have to worry about kids almost destroying an entire city... but I can't complain too much." Although he said it in a joking manner, he was not joking. The pay was damn good, but the hours were complete and utter shit. He'd stay awake some nights well into the next day grading assignments and preparing for the next day or week's work. And then there was the risk of Colburn just going poof because someone didn't know the difference between "burst" and "blast" (the former would cause a shockwave and enhance physical abilities, while the latter just went boom).

She spoke again soon after shaking his hand. "Oh, and I'm Serenity Verdant. I don't exactly have a job, but it's nice to meet you anyway. I forgot to make some tea, oops. Did you want any?" While something to drink sounded refreshing, it sure wasn't tea. He was still warm from this blanket, so he felt he wouldn't need something like that. And he was already imposing enough, even if she didn't admit it. "No thank you." As soon as he finished, a cool breeze slipped into the open crack of the blanket, brushing against his spine. Okay, maybe he was getting cold. "On second thought, I will take a cup. Anything you would like is fine, I don't have too much of a preference when it comes to tea." He re-adjusted the blanket and turned towards her, who was now preparing the tea for two. "If you don't mind my asking, you wouldn't happen to be that Serenity Verdant, would you?"

Serenity was intrigued by his witty retort. “I see. You have young women fawning all over you, I assume?” Serenity said, once again in a teasing tone. She listened to his minor complaints about the school, but knew that those could build up. She gave him a concerned look and then tilted her head slightly. “If you're not happy with it, is there not something else you could do?” Serenity asked him, “I mean... If the hours are so horrible and the stress is too high, I'm sure there is something else that you'd be able to get into...” Serenity went on to make the tea, feeling a bit of a chill move down her spine. She had dried off, but it takes the inside of a body more time to warm up. Making the tea turned into a little bit of a problem. It wasn't because of his indecisiveness, but because of her clumsiness. She ground the tea leaves fine, but as she went to pick up the second up, her finger slipped. It fell and she went to catch it, but her hand couldn't grip. The impact sent the cup flying back into the air and away from her. As she reached out for it, she tripped over her own two feet and fell.

“Eep!” she let out a scream that sounded more like a squeaking mouse. She watched the glass likely fall onto the ground at the same time she did and then sighed. She rubbed her side, feeling slight pain as she landed wrong, and let out a small “Ow...” She looked up to see what happened to the cup and then smiled embarrassed at herself. She was always clumsy, so this was no surprise, but to do it in front of a guest was just too much. “S-Sorry about that.” she said and went to stand up, “I've always been like that, randomly dropping things.. or breaking things.” Serenity looked away, waiting for the red in her cheeks to calm down. "If you don't mind my asking, you wouldn't happen to be that Serenity Verdant, would you?" he suddenly brought up and she knew immediately what he was talking about. Oh great, he knew who she was and she acted like this in front of him? How disappointing and extremely embarrassing. “Well... Uh...” she glanced away, scratching lightly at her right cheek and then looked back to him, “No point in hiding it, but yeah... I'm the Sorcerer from Aria...” Anyone who knew her name, the legend behind it and what she did, knew exactly what it meant. She had many names to go by, but she didn't much like any of them, so she merely called herself that. “I take it you've heard of me?” she asked, her cheeks becoming redder with every passing moment.

"I see. You have young women fawning all over you, I assume?" To say that is to say that the Glass Sea is damp. Alain was very attractive as mentioned before, and it didn't help that he was teaching students who were about to leave, meaning the whole teacher-student relationship would disappear within a year. "The occasional male too. You can't look this good" He winked at her "and expect not to have most of the mail coming to your office be love letters from students. They're getting smarter too. They no longer send it in pink or other colored envelopes and make it look official so I get tricked into reading it."

"If you're not happy with it, is there not something else you could do? I mean... If the hours are so horrible and the stress is too high, I'm sure there is something else that you'd be able to get into..." Ah, he had made a major mistake. "I didn't mean to make it seem like I wasn't happy with it. I really do enjoy it. It's the one job where if someone under you makes a mistake, you're free to laugh." And the part about the hours and stress was true... they were bad. But he never was stressed for more than a few hours nor did he complain of the hours. Both were good trade-offs for the joy he had working at the place that showed him a brighter life. When Serenity dropped the cup, he leapt to try to catch it... but to no avail. Then she tried to catch it, so he tried to catch her... also to no avail. He did get to her before she was able to stand back up, but only barely as she was already halfway up. He didn't really pay attention to how cute she looked or sounded, as he was more worried about her cutting herself on the glass. "I can't say I would've done much better myself in catching that cup. But that was a nasty fall, are you okay? "

And then she explained who she was. Well Rydian be dammed. If he weren't half-naked in the home of a celebrity. "Heard of you? I practically did my entire final thesis on what you've done and why I thought the theories behind what many thought about it were wrong." Many thought she was somehow capable using Arcana that had been forgotten or developed out of the human body. Alain disagreed. Not once had he heard of anything like it, even in the texts he'd read from the Raging Century into the start of the Auroran Era. If it were something like those theories, there would be something in there. "But I'm not going to get into business. Well, it is an honor to finally meet you."

"The occasional male too. You can't look this good and expect not to have most of the mail coming to your office be love letters from students. They're getting smarter too. They no longer send it in pink or other colored envelopes and make it look official so I get tricked into reading it." Serenity was completely taken aback by that. She knew he was joking; he didn't seem like the type of man to be that self-centered. He just enjoyed a few witty remarks here and there. He succeeded in catching her off her guard quite a lot. The guests she usually had, when she actually had them, were never so bold. It was quite refreshing. The wink even made her blush a bit. It was a gesture that she wasn't quite used to getting anymore. It happened a lot in the past, but those days were over and she wasn't exactly fond of the manner that they used it in. Usually a but smack or unwanted flirting came quickly after.

“Well... um...” she remembered the tea. It was now a perfect distraction for her inability to reply to his remark."I didn't mean to make it seem like I wasn't happy with it. I really do enjoy it. It's the one job where if someone under you makes a mistake, you're free to laugh." he assured her. She merely nodded with a kind smile before she went up to get the tea. Unfortunately, Serenity was clumsy beyond belief. She fell and so did the glass. She was hoping it wouldn't have broken, but oh well. Things happen. Alain had even attempted to catch it, but they both failed. That fact made her giggle a little. “No harm done.” she said, mostly referring to the broken glass along the floor, “And yeah... I'm alright. I think I might of landed on my side wrong though... It'll be fine.” Serenity waved it off like it was nothing. She confirmed her identity to him and received a reaction that she wasn't fully expecting. “You wrote a paper about me? That's really nice.” Serenity said, her face reddening even more. It was quite flattering to hear.

“Finally meet? Have you wanted to meet me before now?” she asked, tilting her head to the side, “I've never met someone who actually wanted to meet me. They usually just want me to help someone they know or touch my bottom.” Serenity said that quite casually, as if she almost didn't even understand the meaning behind it. She did, but she also didn't think it was too significant to care. “Don't move!” she said suddenly when she realized glass was everywhere. She was not wanting him to step on glass and cut himself. She heard a loud whistle come up from the background so she went over to the kettle and poured some of the water into the unbroken glass, momentarily ignoring the fact that her guest was sort of just standing there. She put the kettle back on the stove and placed the cup on a small plate. “Here ya go...” she said, handing him the tea, “I'll clean this up.” Serenity went toward a corner closet and pulled out a broom. She quickly swept the glass up, picking up any small pieces that the broom couldn't get and tossed it into the trash.

"Essentially, yes. You're a great example of how dynamic and ever-changing the world of the Arcane is." He didn't realize he made her seem like she was being seen as something in a lab, but he didn't mean it as such. He really meant it to be flattering, even if it didn't sound it at first. She really was something different from what he was able to tell. But that level of difference was not something he had seen or heard of before. There was nothing to compare her to, and his mind there never would be something to compare her to. But for some reason... no matter how lonely it sounded, it just seemed right for her.

"Finally meet? Have you wanted to meet me before now? I've never met someone who actually wanted to meet me. They usually just want me to help someone they know or touch my bottom." Touch her bottom? No, no one would ever want to do that. Of course, that is sarcasm. Alain could tell that she had the attractiveness to cause people to want that even without her celebrity status. "Well, I can't say too much about the latter reason, but I have wanted to meet you otherwise. You've done good work, and it's really an honor to meet someone who could be called a hero."

"Don't move!" He actually didn't plan on moving from that spot because of the same thing. He could see just about every piece of glass there, so it wasn't like he couldn't avoid the glass if he were to walk... but he had a feeling that if he moved, one of the two of them would be digging a piece of glass out of his foot. But he did move, carefully, to get out of the radius of the break. "Here ya go... I'll clean this up." "Ah, thank you. " She returned with a tea cup on a saucer, which he carefully grabbed from her. "Try not to cut yourself. If you get a piece of glass stuck in your foot, the only thing I'll be able to get it out with is my sabre." He chuckled before taking a sip of the tea. Too bitter.

"Essentially, yes. You're a great example of how dynamic and ever-changing the world of the Arcane is." Serenity blinked a couple times as if she had no idea what that even meant, but she did. She wasn't some genius, but she was pretty smart and that wasn't something people expected. "You say that like I'm some sort of miracle." she tilted her head and sort of glanced down at her hands, as if she were studying herself. Thinking more about what he said, she felt another smile creep up on her. It was surprising how a stranger could make her feel like she was something special, not just some celebrity, but genuinely special. He did so again when he told her that it was an honor to meet her. "Well, I can't say too much about the latter reason, but I have wanted to meet you otherwise. You've done good work, and it's really an honor to meet someone who could be called a hero." he said and once again she was made to blush. Serenity lowered her head a bit and brought her hands up, placing them over her cheeks, as if that could fully hide the blush. "I-I'm not a hero... I j-just did what should have been done, w-what any decent person who have done." she said shyly, "If you've got the ability to... y-you should help someone. That's how I feel about it, at least."

The glass! Serenity went on and quickly cleaned up the glass, trying to calm her mind down. She hadn't blushed this much in years and wasn't sure how to handle it. "Try not to cut yourself. If you get a piece of glass stuck in your foot, the only thing I'll be able to get it out with is my sabre." he said jokingly. She didn't have a reply to that, but she'd be careful. Once she got it all cleaned up, she was relieved to say that her face had dropped back down to it's original shade. She walked over to the kitchen and quickly made herself a cup of tea. She didn't have any sugar because she didn't use it. The tea was all natural and bitter, yes, but she liked it that way. She probably shouldn't have assumed that Alain did as well, but she didn't have anything else to change that. With guests being a rarity, she didn't have things to compensate for when they did come along. "I know the tea is to everyone's taste, but I very, very rarely have guests, so I don't keep any sugar or sweetener around." she explained, knowing that would likely be an issue. She sat down on the couch again, keeping to her end and patting the seat down next to her. It was either that, or the floor. This house really wasn't suited for more than one person. "I think I'm probably going to have to get an extra chair some time too..." she said giggling as she took a sip of her tea. "So, what brought you to my forest?" she asked, her head tilted, "Not many travel through there."

As they sat and talked, outside suddenly became much, much worse. Rain began pouring down more than before and a loud boom of thunder echoed through out the forest. If one were to look out the window, a few cracks of lightning would bee seen in random areas. "Uh'oh... You can't leave." she said in a slightly demanding tone, but with concern as well. She sat up and placed her knees into the couch, leaning into the back of it while looking out the window and watching everything. "I don't want you walking off a cliff, or making a wrong turn." she said and looked back to him with a soft smile, "If I found you hurt or worse once the rain cleared, I don't know what I'd do." She turned back around, sitting back down in the couch and pulled her tea up once more, taking a few sips before setting it down on the small table in front of them.

"You say that like I'm some sort of miracle." As she started to examing her hands, he was just waiting on her to say "That's new." But she was a sort-of miracle. Or rather, she was a one-in-two-hundred-and-fifty-seven-billion chance. Out of 257,000,000,000 possible scenarios, only one would have her in it. That was nearly a hundred times the approximate total human population of Aurora. But now Alain was starting to realize that he was making her seem like some sort of subject in a study, so he didn't comment. And he wanted to. He did. He wanted to tell her that she was a miracle.

"I-I'm not a hero... I j-just did what should have been done, w-what any decent person who have done. If you've got the ability to... y-you should help someone. That's how I feel about it, at least." So humble about it too. He can't say he had any real idea on what she was like before this... except she was obviously extremely kind. But to be so humble... there was no doubt in his mind this was the real Serenity Verdant, even if there was no doubt before. "That's a good way to think about it. I act on similar principles as well. Of course, our methods..." He paused for a second. Fifty names ran through his head like a wheel on a slot machine. "...they're nowhere close to the same."

Although the tea was bitter, he could still drink it. It wasn't the worst he's had, or even really bad to tell the truth. It just was more bitter than he liked it. Granted, he really wasn't a tea person either way. "I know the tea is to everyone's taste, but I very, very rarely have guests, so I don't keep any sugar or sweetener around." Although his face twisted slightly, he was trying not to make it out to be worse than it was. "Ah, it's fine. It's not that bad honestly. I haven't spit it out, and I do have a smile on my face still. " Alain wanted to make a comment about how the villagers nearby looked the type to like their tea even more bitter and their coffee blacker than the night sky. But he felt that'd be taken as an insult.

As she motioned for him to sit next to him, he weighed his options. He could either sit on the cold, wood floor and seem rude for not accepting her offer... or get close to a young woman he just met while he was half-naked. Quite a predicament. He flipped a mental coin, decided he'd rather sit beside her. He made sure as to sit as far away from her as he possibly could on the couch. He just didn't want any accidents. "I think I'm probably going to have to get an extra chair some time too..." He almost said "Definitely." but that... Rydian why was he so worried about seeming like an asshole to her? This was a stranger, but... he just didn't want to seem like the biggest douchebag in the whole word like he'd seen himself as in the occasional dream—especially the one where he burnt down some sort of dojo...

"So, what brought you to my forest? Not many travel through there." Her forest? That made her sound like she was a witch. He jokingly wondered if this floor was gingerbread or actually wood... "I can't really say I was traveling through your forest. I'm leading an expedition to a dig site on the island not far from here and one of the carriage's wheels snapped in half. The only person in your village who can make another one won't be back until tomorrow." He took a sip of his tea. Still bitter, but it was getting better. "So I went to take a walk and ended up getting caught in this storm." And then the thunder roared. He sighed.

"Uh'oh... You can't leave." "It seems so..." He now wished he had gone... No. He actually didn't wish for anything different. Well, except that maybe his underpants weren't as wet as they were. He was enjoying this time, even if he felt he was being a burden. "I don't want you walking off a cliff, or making a wrong turn. If I found you hurt or worse once the rain cleared, I don't know what I'd do." He took it as her way of telling him to stay. If he had gotten up to leave, he felt she'd be grabbing at the blanket, telling him to stay blatantly. "Knowing my luck, I would have fallen off a cliff or ended up walking all the way back to Colburn. But this body is more durable than it looks." He joked, knowing that if he did fall off a cliff he'd basically be lying down at the bottom with his insides looking like that broken cup. "Is there a reason you live farther off from the other villagers? Ah, that is if it's something you don't mind sharing with a stranger sitting half-dressed on your couch."

This would be the first time that Serenity would have a guest sleep over. She couldn't remember the last time she had someone stick around. It brought up a few questions. What were they going to eat for dinner? Should she cook? What was he going to wear? He couldn't sleep in his other clothing, right? She didn't sleep like that. in fact, where was he going to sleep? She had a large bed that he could easily fit on, but then where would she sleep? The couch, perfect. She was sort of dazing out, trying to think of how she would arrange everything. When she came back from her thoughts, she barely caught half of his sentence. "...the way back to Colburn. But this body is more durable than it looks." he said and she smiled at him. "Well that's a relief, but I do hope you'd choose to stay. I'd rather you not have to take the chance." she said truly concerned for this strangers well being, "I'm sure the people you were leading won't leave without you and I can walk you back in the morning, if the rain has cleared. I needed to head into town anyway." He could take care of himself when it came to walking back, that was obvious. Maybe she actually didn't mind the company? She was out here alone ninety-eight percent of the time.

"Is there a reason you live farther off from the other villagers? Ah, that is if it's something you don't mind sharing with a stranger sitting half-dressed on your couch." he said and Serenity realized something. He was half-naked. She looked to him and ended up glancing him up and down, seeming to examine him a little closely, but then looked back up to his eyes. "Don't call yourself a stranger, okay?" she said and then smiled again, her actual realization being shown. She had been calling him a stranger as well, but she didn't feel that way. Sure, they weren't best friends, but she didn't feel that she knew nothing about him. "The moment I invited you into my home, we were no longer strangers, silly." Serenity's smile grew, "You're my friend now, okay?" It could be considered an ignorant concept, but one thing people didn't know about her is her ability to sense darkness, evil, and ill intent. If he had any toward her, she would know and she would run. So far, she sensed nothing, so she trusted him. She only hoped that it would stay that way; she sort of needed a friend, even if he wasn't going to be around long.

"And I live out here because of how it was in the big cities... People got really bad. They didn't mean to, but they were so obsessed with the idea of me being a hero that they wouldn't leave me alone." Serenity lowered her head, looking sadly into her teacup, "I would have people break into my house to steal my belongings. I had people try to cut locks of my hair and that's if they weren't sending me their own. I got love letters, gifts I didn't deserve and could not keep. I couldn't go grocery shopping without being stalked. One time, things got really bad and a group took me from my home... If Queen Aranhartte hadn't gotten word of it and stopped them, I don't know where I'd be today..." Serenity tensed up a little at the thought and then closed her eyes. "The Queen was kind enough to have a house built away from the cities and outside of Arcadia. She wanted some way for me to be where she could watch over me, without the public knowing about it. The village is a very common stop for tourism, so she put me near it." She looked up from the cup and then back to him, her smile quickly returning, though it wasn't as big as before. "So that's my sob-story. Tell me something about yourself, maybe? Anything you'd like to share?" Serenity leaned into the couch, turning fully toward him, and bringing her knees back up.

"I don't think they would know where to go without me leading them. I've been to the site before, but I heard of this shorter path from someone there last time. It was supposed to cut an hour off of the trip." Which it obviously failed at. They'd be an entire day if not more behind schedule. Hurgh, it's a real pain to be caught in situations like this when you're running a tight schedule.

"Don't call yourself a stranger, okay?" Hm...? What was he to call himself to her and her to him? Was their relationship not that of a fateful rescue from the cold and nothing more? "The moment I invited you into my home, we were no longer strangers, silly." He was thunderstruck. He really was surprised at her. Why did she trust him so much? I mean, he had a damn sword! He was a foot taller than her! And he was half-naked! That just screams suspicious (or the start for a low-budget adult movie)! So why, why did she feel this comfortable around him. "You're my friend now, okay?" Friend... Alain had that word repeat in his head. He had some friends back in Colburn, of course. But... but she was different. Something about her meaning of the word friend seemed more true to its definition than what Alain's friends were...

"I can't tell if that's one of the bravest things I've heard" He scratched his head, not knowing what to really think of that. "or one of the most naive things I've heard..." But really, was it so naive of her to think that way? Maybe she could see something he couldn't about people... "but I'm going to have to go with my gut and say it's the former." He smiled, taking another sip of his tea. He no longer cared about the bitterness. Instead, his mind was racing, thinking about what she could see about people. Maybe she was so pure that she could sense the impurities of others? He'd love to ask, but... he decided to not ask just yet.

She then spoke of the hardships of being a celebrity—of being a hero. He didn't say a single word during her entire story. He only nodded, making the occasional grunt of 'mmhmm.' He was right... she was so much of a different type of person that she was alone. That there was no one to be a torch to bat away that darkness around her. He felt bad for her... but he also felt that she was strong for not reacting badly to it or bathing in the attention. Other celebrities would go off the deep end after getting so much attention, but she didn't. Instead, she just isolated herself. A smart, albeit lonesome, move. "I see... well, it's certainly a hard life. But it looks like you made a good choice in agreeing with Her Highness to leave the city."

And now he leaned back into the couch, taking a sip of the bitter tea before doing so. "I can say I'm nowhere near as interesting of a person as you are." He wasn't kidding. In his mind, she was a star and he was but a dying match's flame against darkness. They couldn't really even be compared. "I've lived in Colburn all of my life, and only really started to travel after graduating from Rydian and becoming a professor there. I've been there for nearly ten years now, teaching third-year sorcery. Though..." He leaned up slightly. "I did have an interesting incident where a student lost control of ground-control magic and sunk himself so far down we couldn't throw a light down there to see him. Kid was so terrified he couldn't pull himself back up using the same magic that got him down there. It took a while, but I finally got a rope down to the bottom and brought him back to the surface."

"I can't tell if that's one of the bravest things I've heard or one of the most naive things I've heard... but I'm going to have to go with my gut and say it's the former." he said and she smiled again. "It's alright. There are many people who disagree with how I choose to do things, but it's worked for me so far." she said. Why fix something that isn't broken? That's how she felt about it. If she's lived this long without befriending a monster, she's sure that she won't do it any time soon. "Yep. I was happy when she offered. I would have gone insane in the city." she replied, giggling a little when she thought about it. The only thing that she would say she regretted is having to sell the house her family had bought when they first moved to Aria. Oh well, nothing she could do about it now. "I can say I'm nowhere near as interesting of a person as you are." he said. "Oh, I doubt that. I'm sure you've got something you can tell." she quickly replied, excited to hear something about him.

"I've lived in Colburn all of my life, and only really started to travel after graduating from Rydian and becoming a professor there. I've been there for nearly ten years now, teaching third-year sorcery. Though... I did have an interesting incident where a student lost control of ground-control magic and sunk himself so far down we couldn't throw a light down there to see him. Kid was so terrified he couldn't pull himself back up using the same magic that got him down there. It took a while, but I finally got a rope down to the bottom and brought him back to the surface." Serenity was stuck. She sort of just stared at Alain for a few moments and then looked away. "That poor kid... I can't even imagine how terrified he must have been." she said and suddenly jumped. It had been silent for a bit, but thunder decided to break that. It sounded like a bomb had gone off. Serenity closed her eyes and waited for it to stop. If it continues on like this, she doubted either of them would be able to sleep anyway.

"Are you hungry at all? I have some left over stew from last night if you want some of that..." she said, thinking about what she could make, "If not, I can go pick something from the gar-... The garden!" One thing Serenity did not do, was yell. When she remembered that the garden wasn't covered from the harsh rain, she didn't hesitate to jump up from her seat and rush out the front door. She didn't even care to shut it. She hurried along a stone path and ran around to the side of the house. Seeing that it was practically flooded, she pulled on a lever she had hooked and a metal roof dropped down from the roof of her house at a slant, allowing a shield for the garden. "Oh no..." she said, grabbing a near by bucket and scooping out some of the excess water. Luckily she was smart enough to have a moat of sorts around it in the first place, so it wasn't horrible. The fact was, this garden was all she ate, excluding the meats she bought from the village. Without it, she'd starve. She didn't exactly have a job.

"That poor kid... I can't even imagine how terrified he must have been." Before he could respond, a boom of thunder echoed and shook the small house. The small woman beside him was startled by it, but he was not. Frankly, he had heard much louder from students at Rydian. But she was terrified by it. She even shook slightly as the explosion-like roars continued. Alain placed his hand on her shoulder. He didn't even think a second thought about it. He just instictively did it. He moved his hand slightly, motioning like he was polishing a sphere. All he was trying to do was calm her down, to show there wasn't anything to be afraid of.

As his hand made contact, however, he felt something more. If he was just getting the radiation from her being, then this was full-on grabbing the fuel rods if not plunging into the heavy water of a reactor. It was like before. That white. He felt so... calm with his hand on her shoulder. It was like he was the being the one comforted and not her. He wasn't terrified of this storm, but there were darker things in his past which he kept inside. And this feeling was like saying that it was okay. That he had made mistakes, but they were all good mistakes. And he shouldn't let them weigh him down... he had to learn from them and move on. It brought a softer smile to his face.

"Are you hungry at all? I have some left over stew from last night if you want some of that... If not, I can go pick something from the gar-... The garden!" She yelled and jumped up, his hand finally retracting from her shoulder. He was confused. What garden? All he had seen was a small koi pond beside the hou... oh. Oh. Alain stood up almost as quickly as she did, throwing the blanket onto the couch. He followed her, although he shut the door behind him. One of them had to be in a calm mindset. He arrived shortly behind her, seeing her extend a metal extension of the roof. "Oh no..." He didn't even hear her say it, he was looking at the metal roof. His eye for carpentry from his days of working around the house let him see it before it happened.

As Serenity was digging out the the water, a worn nail decided its time was up. Or maybe it was executed by mother nature, its head rolling. Either way, the nail was no longer supporting the metal roof. And when one failed, the others did soon after. The metal roof slid out from its holdings. It began to tumble. It was too heavy for the wind to carry it away, so its only target was... Blue. That's what color would now be above Serenity. Not the blue of a clear sky, but the blue of a tightly-wound rectangle holding the metal roof only slightly above her head. It began to slip through what was now holding it, so he quickly swung around, the blue plank following in suit. It then faded, the metal falling into the ground. But that left the garden exposed. He couldn't keep an interference barrier up all night...

He grabbed the metal and stepped over her, making sure not to stand on a plant of some kind. He was holding the metal like an umbrella, praying to Rydian that lightning didn't see him. "Do you have a ladder and some nails? I can re-attach it for now if you do. Or just nails or something to pin it back into its holdings." He didn't understand what this garden meant to her. But he wasn't about to let it get flooded again.

Her tense body winced momentarily at the sudden touch, but when she turned her head toward his hand, she just smiled. "Thank you." was all she could say in reply. Another boom came and she tensed, but not as badly as before. She kept her gaze toward the floor and reached over toward his hand. She set hers over his and smiled a bit. It was nice to actually have someone here during things like this. She was so used to getting through things alone that she forgot what it was like to actually be comforted. Feeling her stomach curl a bit, she realized she was hungry and decided to ask him, but then something popped into her mind: the garden. If she lost it in the storm, if her crops were damaged, she wouldn't be able to eat for months. This realization came fast enough for her to dart out of her home without hesitation. She hadn't wanted Alain to follow her, but she didn't exactly suggest for him to stay inside.

Serenity was emptying excess water when she heard the the snapping of a nail. She looked up and froze at the sight. She heard a couple more snapping sounds and the metal came falling down toward her. Not even thinking to jump out of the way, she curled over and placed her hand over her head, expecting a harsh impact any second, but it never came. She opened her eyes and looked up, to see this blue sheet above her. She looked over to Alain in shock and then back up to the metal. It looked like it was about to slip again, but he moved it away from her pretty quickly. Looking back to Alain, she felt a tinge of guilt. "Do you have a ladder and some nails? I can re-attach it for now if you do. Or just nails or something to pin it back into its holdings." he said. It took her a moment to register his words, but she soon snapped out of her momentary trance. "Y-Yeah... They're in the shed." she said, pointing to it. It could be seen from their position, about twenty feet away behind the back of the house. "I'll get it." she quickly stood up and hurried her way over to the shed.

The rain was unforgiving. She hoped it would let up for a few minutes, but it only seemed to get worse. A wind began to pick up too; this wasn't just rain. It was turning into a full on storm. As she entered the shed, she got a six step ladder, a can of nails, and a hammer. Hanging the ladder over her shoulder, she had to push her shoulder up and walk along her tip-toes. She was a little too short for it. Once she'd get the items needed, she'd hurry back toward him. "H-Here." she said and handed the items he needed. She kept her head slightly lowered; the water was just running into her eyes and she wasn't bothering to wipe it away yet. "Be careful... please." she said as she watched him do what he needed to do. Just in case, she'd stand near the ladder as well. With how wet the ground was, she didn't trust it to stay perfectly level. Serenity felt her heart racing as another boom of thunder came, but she didn't take her eyes off of the one climbing the ladder.

It's not like the metal was heavy. It was really light for him. But both of them were probably very light to the winds that were blowing. He began to wonder what he would do if the wind treated the metal as a sail and him as a boat. It would not be fun, that's for sure. He waited on her to return, trying to keep as much of the water out of the garden as he could. He heard a tree in the near distance snapping as it was struck by lightning, but it didn't startle him. Although it did make him get a little impatient as his foot started to tap.

The ladder she came back with was too big for her. If she were running and lost her balance, it would have turned into a pole-vault. "H-Here." He lowered the metal sheet, grabbing the items. "Thanks for remembering the hammer. I think my hands would have hurt some if you didn't bring it." He was trying to make light of a really bad situation. "Be careful... please." He placed the ladder on the ground, making sure it was secure and put one foot on the bottom rung. "You don't have to worry about a thing. I once had to tack part of the roof of my house back during a storm much worse than this." He then began the arduous task of repairing this. With nails in his mouth, he began to hammer away, putting these nails in properly. They were older... and she probably would need new ones before too long, but this was a temporary fix. Within fifteen minutes of climbing onto it, he was finished.

As he stepped down from the ladder, a strong gust tugged at him. Thankfully he wasn't carrying that metal sail. ...but he did have a sail tied around his waist. And it was one that did catch the wind. And it did decide to ride that gust. And that knot was not strong enough to keep the two halves attached. And so they flew. The sail once around his waist set a collision course right for... Whack. Although they wouldn't hurt, the fact was two white towels had just smacked Serenity in the face. As she moved the towels out of her way of view, Alain was standing there, still dumbstruck at what happened. He was standing with only his tight-from-being-soaked blue boxer-briefs protecting her pure eyes. His trusty magnum thankfully had not slipped out of its slot in the blue holster, so she would not see it. Although, these underpants were capable of showing that this was definitely a .44 magnum...

Every roar that hit her ears made Serenity's heart jump. She was scared that the metal would some how act like a rod and pull the lightning toward him. He reassured her that he'd be okay and even gave her a story that could compare to this situation, but she was still nervous for him. It didn't help that the hammer, nails, and ladder were all made of metal as well. They were pretty much a target for lightning, at least she thought. She continued to watch carefully and after fifteen minutes had passed, he was able to get it done without incident. She took a small step back as he began coming down off the ladder, but as this was done, his towel came lose and flew into her face. Reflex took over and she removed the object from in front of her face and looked toward him. At first she didn't think anything of it, but when her eyes began to wander, she caught sight of the bulge. "U-Uh..." Serenity took a step back, her face lighting up like a hot thermometer. She couldn't look away from him. She tried to speak, but she was both in shock and her own form of involuntary awe.

"I'm glad you didn't hand over the underwear now." she stated seriously, but with a joking undertone. It was really all she could do before she shook her head, trying to shake the thoughts from her mind. Just because she seemed on the innocent side, didn't mean she was. The fact was, Serenity was a woman. She knew exactly what was under there and couldn't fight her imagination any more than she could fight the storm. Once she was able to shake the thoughts, at least a bit, she hurried toward him and sorta just wrapped the towel around him. She didn't tie it or anything. It was merely a quick way of covering him up again. Once he'd take hold of them, she'd turn away and bring her hands up to the side of her face, covering it even more than she had before. Her face was redder and hotter than ever. "Oh my goodness...." she mumbled and then looked back up to him, "You're soaked again... Let's get inside."

Serenity turned her way toward the stone path, her bare feet now moving through the mud as she walked. She hadn't noticed it until then, but she was now dirty. "Today is just not a lucky day for me..." she said as she looked down at the muddied up clothing, "Well... that's not completely true, huh?." she said with a smile. With that remark, she looked back to Alain, glanced him up and down, and then continued on her way into the house. She didn't exactly get the double meaning there. She was thinking on the fact that she made a friend, isn't so lonely today, and wouldn't have been able to save the garden without him. On the other hand, her dirty minded creator was referring to the lovely shot she got of him without the towel, including the image of what was behind the clingy wet fabric.

Frankly, his face probably was not any less red than hers. But where she lit up like a hot thermometer, he was praying he wouldn't look anything like a thermometer. The two of them just stared for a moment. It was like someone had just dropped ten tons of gold in front of them. And it was just sitting there, waiting on one of the two to touch it. But... no, that's not what this thread is about! Instead, they both were mouthing random combinations of letters. Hopefully a word would come out before the magnum decided to take a stroll...

Then Alain cleared his throat, regaining his composure first. That seemed to snap her out of it too. "I'm glad you didn't hand over the underwear now." There was another reason the ladies called him 'treetop lover'... "Ah.. yeah, I am too. I don't think you would have been able to stop staring." He repeated her joking tone by taking a stab at how long the two stayed in awe. And what didn't help the situation is that even Serenity was getting soaked again, and even if she didn't notice it... her clothing was beginning to also cling. Thankfully nothing as bad as his holster, but still. He was the better of the two, averting his eyes from her body and instead focusing on her eyes and hair. ...Which didn't help because he still had to look down to see her eyes.

As Serenity put the towels back around him, it seemed to him as though she wrapped it around him twenty times and a different way each time. Something told him she wasn't wanting to have a repeat of what just happened. "—ness... You're soaked again... Let's get inside." He couldn't make out what she said at first, but she was right about the second part. He was soaked again. But it was worth it. He had saved her. He surely didn't want to be on the covers of every tabloid. He could see it now:
BREAKING: PROFESSOR KILLS CELEBRITY HEALER. SECRET AFFAIR GONE BAD? "I could say the same about you. You're even more soaked than I am." He still was trying (and failing) not to look at her body and just at her eyes.

"Today is just not a lucky day for me... Well... that's not completely true, huh?" Alain felt bad for her. This is two sets of clothing she'd gotten wet. All because of him. He felt as if he hadn't taken that walk, she would have remembered her garden before the rain got this bad. But... he still couldn't help to joke. Or rather, he continued to tease her. "Considering you got a look at me that many would kill for, I can say it probably is a lucky day for you." He didn't feel bad, but if she asked for him to stop he would. But she seemed to return the teasing just as much as he dished it out. He enjoyed it. "I would say it was an unlucky day for me, but considering I met you, I can't really say that now can I?" He winked at her, teasing once more.

"Ah.. yeah, I am too. I don't think you would have been able to stop staring." he said. A perfect way to redden her face even more. If any more blood rush to her cheeks, she'd faint. Just standing out in the rain wasn't going to help the situation. They were both just getting more soaked. "I could say the same about you. You're even more soaked than I am." he said and she looked down to her clothes. "Yeah... I guess I am." she replied and then went on back toward the house. Even though her original thoughts were a bit different, all she had to do was receive a compliment from him and she knew her day was actually quite lucky. "Well, let's just be glad those students of yours won't know about this." she said and stepped into the house, "Unless you have a few stalkers watching from the woods, of course. Then, you might wanna watch out." Though only half joking, she stuck her tongue playfully at him. Who knows? He could have some crazed fan in the woods, watching his every move, and plotting evil against her, but she doubted it. They'd be foolish to stay out there and with how thick the rain was, it was unlikely that they'd see anything.

Once again entering the dryness of her home, Serenity stopped in the middle of the living area and looked back to him. What was he going to wear now!? "Oi..." she rubbed the back of her head and then glanced toward a linen closet. She walked over and opened it up, looking for something that'd fit around him. Of course, she wasn't paying attention to the fact that water was dripping down from both of them and soaking the floor. "I think..." she said, rummaging through a few towels, "Darn." None of them were large enough to fit around his waist. She did have an old nightgown though. Could he wear that? She glanced back toward him and imagined him wearing the light green dress like pajamas with small flower pattern and couldn't help but laugh. She turned away from him, giggling quite a bit. Calming down enough to stop laughing, she turned back toward him and sighed happily. "I don't know what you're gonna wear now. Hahaha..." she wiped a little water from her face, "I do have an old nightgown that you could wear, but I didn't think it'd be something you like... I mean... No one but I would see you and it'd reach below your knees... On me it touches the ground."

"Well, let's just be glad those students of yours won't know about this. Unless you have a few stalkers watching from the woods, of course. Then, you might wanna watch out." "Knowing a couple of them..." He sighed. He actually has had two stalkers in the past. Both of whom are, to his knowledge, happily married. He still gets letters from former students, and those two were no exception. They thank him almost constantly for talking to them about it and not getting the police involved. They love their current lives and would not have been able to live them with that kind of record. Well, one was a journalist for a tabloid... so who knows? "Even then, you're the one they'd come after. But don't worry, I'll protect you from all of those women who would be jealous of you for seeing my body." He laughed, closing the door behind him.

As she dug around to find him something to wear, he couldn't help but to think about it as well. His clothes wouldn't be done yet, so he just needed something temporary. "I don't know what you're gonna wear now. Hahaha.." The laugh caught his attention again. "I do have an old nightgown that you could wear, but I didn't think it'd be something you like... I mean... No one but I would see you and it'd reach below your knees... On me it touches the ground." He thought about that for a moment. He almost couldn't stop himself from laughing, but he did. "Oh, you want to see me in a dress? I didn't realize you were that kind of person." He laughed again, turning her words against her. "Ah, but I'll have to decline. In case there is a stalker out there, I'd rather not photos of me in a woman's nightgown in your home get out. That and I'm sure it's not my color." He winked again, playing on the odd thought of him in women's clothing.

"Actually..." He spoke up, thinking back to the fact it was just a temporary thing. "Do you just have two more dry towels? I'm sure my clothes won't take too much longer to dry—or at least my pants won't. I'd much rather sit around with just my pants on than wait on my whole outfit to be dry." She had already been looking at his naked torso—of which he was not afraid of showing off at times—for a while now, so it wouldn't matter if he hid it now. Though, the same could also be said for the concealed weapon he carried at all times...
